Is this OK to buy like this?

the friction comes to your pocket when you have to buy a new vehicle because of other peoples bad decisions in government using the salt

That might be an H3 unicorn, but it is not that big of deal, I've seen plenty. The H3 holy grail is the 09 Alpha Off Road.

The holy grail of the unicorns is an H3T Alpha Off Road.

Salt melts ice.
At least Rock Salt does (Sodium Chloride). I know some places use other salts like magnesium chloride, calcium chloride, or potassium chloride, but I think rock salt is most common.
The others might do more of the "preventing ice" thing, but I am not sure.

BTW, If you think about it, melting the ice DOES increase friction.

Me thinks that the H3 "holy grail"/Unicorn would be a 2010 H3 Alpha Lux OffRoad. Very few of those birds made compared to the 2009 version and the 500 Champs built.

That could be true, except the 10s have the LH9 motors which limit some possible performance options. Can't be many of those 10s out there.

Get it looked at, if no Rot and the price fits your budget, do it. I just noticed it has UPC already installed. That stuff is getting darn hard to find.

Salt lowers the freezing point of water. Lowering the freezing point of water means: It prevents ice from forming, AND it melts ice that has already formed. "Traction" (not friction) is better on asphalt (even wet) than it is on ice. While it is indeed science, it's not rocket science.

While friction is a general physical expression, vehicle traction can be defined as the friction between a drive wheel and the road surface. “traction is the friction between a drive wheel and the road surface. If you lose traction, you lose road grip.” Now you know that it all comes down to friction.

It’s all about friction

First, let’s dive into the physics of friction and add some rubber and asphalt. Friction as such doesn’t move the vehicle forward. Friction is a resisting force that resists the relative motion of two surfaces. Simply put, when driving, the engine generates a force on the driving wheels that moves the vehicle onward. Friction is the force that opposes the tire rubber from sliding on the road surface. However, things are not really that simple – we have two different frictions to consider; static and kinetic friction.

Static friction – the frictional force between surfaces that are NOT moving relative to each other.

Kinetic friction – the frictional force between surfaces that ARE moving relative to each other.

But when the wheels are rolling isn’t it about kinetic friction? No. When driving on a dry road, irrespective of vehicle speed, it’s the static friction that keeps the vehicle steady on course. If you look at it in a microscope – and in very slow-motion – the contact area of the tire doesn’t move relative to the road surface. It’s just that continuously new parts of the tire gets in contact with the road as the wheel is rolling.
