Hummer H3For the Hummer driver who wants the rugged look and off road capabilities of the Hummer, but in a smaller size and with a more fuel economy friendly engine.
I am working on my daughters 2006 H3 and gauges show no fuel pressure.
The fuse is good, relay is new. I have a 2008 Alpha and I will get 5v at the fuel pump fuse and when I cycle the key it will go to 12v for a few seconds to prime the fuel rail. The 2006 is showing no voltage even when the key is cycled. (No voltage at fuel pump as well.)
So far I have, with no success-
- new fuel pump
- new relay
- fuse is good
- replaced ECM
- car is out of Georgia, no rust, no wiring issues observed.
Any suggestions?
does the fuel pump work if you jump out the relay? at least that will tell you your issue is on the control side of the relay or no power getting to relay might be internal issue in the fuse box. unless passlock is deactivating the fuel pump.
Check the instrument cluster, is the PassLock thingy displayed?
Clean the ignition switch. You have an OLD vehicle, you should have a can of CRC Electronic Cleaner in your tool kit. Use it to CLEAN your ignitionswitch connections! Pics courtesy of hummerz.
I am getting 12v to the fuel pump relay pin (30) on fuse box, but no voltage from the ECM side. I think that might be the ground side so starting to look at that. When I send 12v thru the wire to the fuel pump does power on. I did jump from Pin 30 to 87 but no sound. (I did not send 12v to the ECM side. Did not want to accidentally fry it )
The security lock light was off. I also pulled the cover off the steering column and cleaned the connection, it looked solid, no issues observed.
It seems like I am getting the 12v to the fuse block pin 30 on the fuel pump relay but nothing on the control side. (It appears to not allow or notify fuel pump prime from occurring.) Thanks.
i think the ecm sends ground to 1 pin of the control side you can test that with a test light on battery positive and then initialize the pump the other pin of the control side should then have 12 v i believe all time but look at a schematic to verify. if so then your missing 12 v on the control side and you need to look further. it might be internal to the fuse box.
Check the condition of the ground wires at the rear driver side cross frame (near the left rear wheel). There are 2 or 3 ground wires there with a ring terminal attached to a stud on the frame. These are grounds for the fuel pump, license plate lamp and trailer hitch. The wires themselves will corrode and fail and the ground stud may be rusted solid. If that’s the case cut back to good wire and use a quality pigtail and solder sleeve to extend the ground point to a different bare metal contact on the frame.
Ok, on the fuel pump relay I have 12v at pin 30. I checked /cleaned grounds and they are testing properly. The control side of the fuel pump relay are showing ground. With key cycled, on or off there is no voltage to the fuel pump fuse.
When I went from the fuel pump relay 12v pin 30 socket to 87 and 87a sockets with a jumper wire still no power being sent to the fuel pump fuse. (Relay removed just sending 12v through the fuse box.) Using diagram above it looks like power should flow from that socket to the fuse pump fuse to the fuel pump.
When fuel relay socket 30 , 12v, is jumped to the fuel pump fuse the fuel pump turns on. When pressurized the vehicle starts but dies as the fuel pressure powers. (Fuel pump stops running when jumper removed.)
Does this sound like a bad fuse box? I was going to pull it but it looks like you can't seen in back of it. Maybe look at the two plugs on the bottom for burn mark? Not sure on how to test the fuse box.
