Wife bought 2006 H3. Broken me fix! (try) Real nice unit unit starting spitting cam codes. Sensors replaced and the usual. 17 error low compression finally popped so I told here to take it to GM dealer. 1220$ later they say it needs new motor for 8k. GM
shop changed phaser worth 300$. Think they shifted timing by one tooth. Took this upon myself. I am not a (Q) mechanic but understand concepts.
Got into motor to find timing out by one tooth on both cams. Pulled head off suspecting soft valve issue. Found hole in one exhaust valve. Not just burnt holy. Now into pulling timing cover, oil pan etc. Just wondering if there is any issues or mods I should do while I am this deep into it. H3 has 220k on it so I will do timing guides.chain, head etc

Imho I'd probably have it rebuilt locally or yank a donor with low mileage if possible. My 2¢

Default Hummer H3

Had head rebuilt as it had a hole in exhaust valve. Ended up changing all timing components. All back together and running. But runs like crap. Missing after warmup. Error codes 304 keep popping up. Not coils as I swapped. Intake gaskets weren't changed as previous job had done already. Any ideas?

Default 2006 H3 rough idle.

H3 seems to smooth out at 900-1000 rpm. Has lots of power. Checked intake bolts. Going to get on a better scanner to reset computer to relearn timing. Know solenoid was changed a while back.

Default H3

4100 US is close to 6k Canadian. Working on half that. GM here quoted 8k for motor.

Default H3

After rbt head. Low comp on 4, Only 150,with oil 165. OTHERS OK

Bad rebuild or possible head gasket?

Odd as leakdown at 50 comes out PCV whether on tdc or opp stroke
