Default Need Help

Have a 2007 H3 that seems to shift into reverse, but it won't move?

Welcome to HF.

Miles? Any recent work done just before this happened? When was the last time you changed the Trans Fluid and Filter? Did you check the level and condition of your Trans Fluid?

A common sign of 460Le Trans Failure is the inability to shift into second gear or reverse. If I had the information requested above I could make an educated guess, but you did not provide it.

162K Miles. Dipstick was nearly dry so added more fluid. Wasn't sure how much to put in so I did a smaller amount first, retested a couple days later, and then added some more. Scared to overfill! So far only put in somewhere between 1/3 or so of a quart.

Not sure when the last time the transmission fluid was changed, or when it had last been worked on. Bought this a few months back for my daughter who just turned 16, but doesn't get her license for another month. They gave me all the records they had of any service, but nothing in there about the transmission?

Only driven it maybe 300-500 miles or so since we bought it!!

Did you not check ALL of the fluids upon inspection prior to the purchase?
If you did, and the transmission fluid an acceptable level then and not now after only 350-500 miles you have a leak or cracked cooler in the radiator (not likely you would have pink milkshake fluid).
As DOC asked previously, what color is the fluid?

No leaks showing on the ground? And not sure how to check the color on then on the dipstick? It was dry, but now shows a little color, but wouldn't that be because I added new?

You need to be answering the questions, not asking them :-)
How about get the fluid to the proper level (consult the owner's manual to be sure how to check the level), then drive it a little to mix the new and old. Then inspect the fluid color. Use a white towel on the dipstick if it helps you see the color.

Sorry not trying to be a pain, but cars are not my thing! I can't find anywhere that says how much fluid to add when the dipstick is dry? I don't want to overfill, so is there anyone that can tell me a ballpark amount? Also, I can't drive to because it is in the garage, and it won't reverse to get it out

You add enough to get in the full zone. NOBODY could tell you how much Trans Fluid your H3 needs since we do not know how much is still in it, if any.

Use DEXRONŽ-VI Automatic Transmission Fluid.

Park on a level surface. Start the engine and let it run until up to full operating temp. Leave it running. Open hood, pull trans dipstick and LOOK. Add small amount, re-check fluid level, repeat until you get to the full mark.
