LS2 Engine swap info

So ive owned my 06 H3 for about a year now and the only thing I cant stand, besides being the #1 vehicle pulled over, is the lack of power in the 3.5l I5. Ive researched and thought about FI, and this little engine just really isnt built to handle it to the extent i would want it to. SO in comes thought 2, ENGINE SWAP.

Ive read in other forums about guys with colorado and canyons swapping out with LS2s and have found a company called Current Performance that makes mail out kits to do it on them. With that kit it means you could do it for almost as much as doing a custom turbo kit. And with all the simularities with them and a H3 i figured it should work. i found something on some guy doing this to an H3 but it was really vague.

Does anyone have any info on the swap in a H3 specifically?

I don't know, but if you do it please keep us up to date on it. The LS2 is a great engine.

Ive already started to collect and search for parts....its a matter of time and money on doing it now. Im hoping to do the swap some time in the winter to spring.
I found a LS2 out a GTO with a 4l60E that has already been beefed up. that would save time on modifying my stock 4l60E.

I keep reading people say this!!!!!
I have an 07 and think it has plenty of power for what it is .....it's not a sports car
and when I pull my race trailer I'm not going to pull out and pass someone doing 70..but it can pull the ass out of an Elephant..
this thing weight almost 5,000 pounds ....it's made for off=roading not the drag strip

just my 2

Apparently, it is made for the drag strip, too.

I get your point mbrannon64...

my needs are a bit different. this is a toy that i plan on putting up on 38s and want the LS2 so i can spin them. haha. i dont plan to drag this thing, although i probably will just to see what it runs. think about it an H3 on 38 inch boggers that runs 12s....that would be fun.

I have an LS2 in mine. I've posted it a couple of times before. Much better than the 5.3 in the Alpha (which has a whopping total of 60ish more HP than the I5) and my gas mileage is hardly changed at all (16-18 highway):

Current Performance did my wiring harness and I got a PCM from them, but I had to get a junkyard harness because some of the connectors are made by Sumitomo. They have mounts for the Colorado, but they don't work unless you get the Alpha specific oilpan. That's where the similarities end. An H3 is not just a redressed Colorado--they are not as similar as you might think. The stock transfer case on the H3 is Japanese (Isuzu, I believe). You will need to get a 4l65e for the transmission to bolt up to the transfer case ( l looked into the 4l60e and it may not work, and you also lose your traction control (who cares!).

Although I have done many engine swaps, I farmed this out to Mike Mash in Wichita. This was a difficult swap because you need to get the right combo of accessories for the front. Mine was the test subject though and he has a pretty good handle on this. He does a lot of H2 drivetrains into H3's and that is more straightforward. You might give him a call, especially if you don't have the ability to lift the body off of the frame. It's much easier to do the swap that way. I would do the swap again in a heartbeat

[QUOTE=rugbyman00;205584]the only thing I cant stand, besides being the #1 vehicle pulled over,/QUOTE]

So your recommended solution to being the #1 target for speeding tickets is............. wait for it ........... MORE POWER.

Oh well, to each his own. Ya do what you gotta do.
