Hello everyone,
I love my HUMMER but I never (and when I say never I means never) use it offroad.
Soon I will have to change the tires and I was thinking to use a slightly lower profile tires (like 265/70/R16) without changing the stock 16s rims.
Is it reccomandable ? If yes, what is the lower profile it can be used on a 16s stock rim?

Otherwise, which are the best tires for a city road use of the vehicle?

Of course tires are a very personal choice kinda thing. Where one lives, type of driving, etc...
But as always driving needs are what has to be full filled.
My thought is a good basic HT style tire. Not meant for off road and it's sole purpose is to carry your butt to and fro on the highways and byways.
265x75-16. A low rolling resistance tire would really up the ante. A touring tire perhaps?

so HT stand for "Highway Terrain" Correct?
Going from 265/75 to 265/70 isnīt raccomanded correct?
I was thinking about it to lower a bit the vehicle losing some clearance and gaining some stability.
Am I wrong?

 

Not recommended! You will lose to much on load capacity: 265/70 around 2400lbs, 265/75 around 3400lbs, 285/75 around 3700lbs.

How about 275/55.20 Goodyear tires and rims from a GMC Denali? What's the load rating on those? OP, have you considered larger diameter rims and tires from a later full size GM SUV or pickup? Anyone running those?
I am also thinking of changing the tires on my Alpha, because I don't like the high side wall of the 285/75/16. I never plan on going off road, and would like some tires that rides and looks better.

 

A 265x75-16 HT or touring tire with low rolling resistance will net some gas savings and can look good doing it. Albeit, you could also run a summer or street only to!
Low profile are available just look the web over.

 

around 2800lbs.. Still not good enough for me, however if you don't carry a lot of cargo, and don't go off road, it would be safe for you.

Moving to a 20" wheel is counterproductive to what the OP wants regarding mpg. Whatever saving you will get from the tire will be offset by the heavier 20" wheels (the stock 16" wheels weigh less than 20 pounds)
