Hummer H3For the Hummer driver who wants the rugged look and off road capabilities of the Hummer, but in a smaller size and with a more fuel economy friendly engine.
I noticed a sound, a lot like a cv shaft click. It was coming from the transfer case.
I drained maybe 12 oz of fluid from it. That's all it had. I refilled it with 1.6qt ATF and the noise subsided. The fluid had to have went somewhere, so I kept watching.
Yesterday I found fluid on the output shaft, right where it passes the input shaft. The red circle is the fluid, the blue circle where I think it came from.
Im trying to find the seal, NAPA shows one thing, Rockauto another. Which is the right one for a 2008, H3 Alpha?
There appears to be what looks like a hose clamp on the shaft further up. Behind it, I can feel half of a seal missing. The seal is behind where my finger is, I'm pointing at the "hose clamp"
I can see a gap around the one seal I was originally asking about. It looks like the lip of a seal you'd knock in that walked out a bit. I'm not going to mess with it myself, just trying to get parts together. I don't wanna mess something up.
Another angle of the seal further up I could feel missing half of itself.
Yes, lol! that is the cv end for your front drive shaft. Yes it is cr@p... you'll want to refurbish your front drive shaft. Ironically you can purchase the entire driveshaft on amazon for a pretty reasonable amount and just bolt it in. If you would rather rebuild you can get the parts necessary on amazon also.
The output shaft seal for your transfer case can be replaced. If your leaking at the front pumpkin it to can be replaced, the seal i mean. But I would highly recommend you get someone who has worked on 4x4 systems to help.
I ordered the shaft. Just need to find the correct seal and I'll get that installed. Do you happen to know the part number. Tried looking on O'Reilly, but I find an output shaft seal for the rear only.
I found an exploded diagram on another site, but no part number, just "front output shaft seal".
