Default HUNNER - The H3 mod GODFATHER

I saw this on another HUMMER forum and thought the long-timers here would appreciate knowing.

HUNNER was a great source of modifications and knowledge in the early production years of the H3 with his "HUNNER Edition" H3. Dave started off with a white 06 and then a white 08 Alpha.
*His "HUNNER Skids" saved many a rear shock mount and rear leaf spring mounts.
*His HUNNER shock nut trick prior to extended shock offerings by manufacturers.
*His knowledge and tinkering with the torsion bar adjustments also provided us with the 23.5" max.
*HUNNER extended bumpstops (progressive dampeners) lead to the aftermarket manufacturing of them.
*His steering rack reinforcement was the first such on the market making way for other companies to perfect it (Outfitter Designs and others).
*His custom tie rods also spurred others to modify them for strength and longevity.
I had several phone conversations with Dave when CBphoto reintroduced the HUMMER Skids" to a new generation of H3 wheelers. He was a generous, very knowledgeable and honest man who loved his family, sailing and modifying/wheeling his "HUNNER Edition" H3.

A quoted post from Dave "HUNNER" Hunter;
"All of the stuff I did was to improve reliability and function because I knew I was going to lots of remote places. The better the rig the more trouble you can get into? In 06 when I got my first H3 there was not much info out there or aftermarket parts.

I like to think my early 60's life growing up on a large farm and watching the guys mod crappy farm equipment to not just fix it but make it better was my foundation for that mindset. I also thank my Dad for being involved. As I got older I got in on doing those repairs and learned some skills from very innovative men.
Hmmm an H3 tractor:shifty:
I went on to restore cars, convert street cars to road race cars and maintain those and Formula Fords and Atlantics for a race team and on and on.
Most all of my mods can be done by anyone with a few tools and some imagination. They are just my opinion as I see it and may not be the best but will get you thinking.
As some of you know I love this stuff!! I will be glad to share any details (well maybe not the clevis details on the BP tie rods) to help people that don't mind getting their hands dirty and want to build from there to increase the life of our now endangered species H3's.:thumbs:

hmmm now what was I going to do next............."

Post form another forum;
"If you all are not aware Dave Hunter “Hunner” left this earth on March 20th, 2024

Here is his obituary, man he lived a full life! I encourage you to watch his tribute movie.

Hunner was a great guy and a real Hummer enthusiast. He worked on solutions and mods for H3s when there was very little aftermarket support. I only got to offroad with Hunner once. Class guy.

Much to young to be gone. He was my inspiration for my air horns mod on my H3.

I became aware of Hunner way......back in 2011 when I joined the (then multiple Hummer enthusiast forums). So, yes he offered a bevy of info to anyone looking for help. Sadly, personally never met him.
