I don't know, I do not work for GM, so I can't answer that solidly. If I had to surmise, I would guess it is for the same reason few automakers deal in aftermarket performance parts: they can't compete with the price of those speciality shops.
My Hummer dealer offered a Magnaflow exhaust, GM intake and a PCM tune for my H3--for $2800. Uh, I think I got my setup of Gibson, Airaid and pcmforless for a combined $900, give or take. So my dealer offers it, just not at a reasonable price. And they wouldn't do a standalone pcm upgrade, I had to take the whole package. And I know this is settled, but Kelly can't be getting rich with his post-initial purchase support for cheap re-tuning or sending the instructions to do it yourself.

Long term profits mean short-term losses.

Sheeeoooot alrock, I'll cut ya a deal, you pay me $2500.00: I'll fly out there to AZ, put on a Magnaflow cat back; Airaide; PCMforless tune; and, install your underbody protection package. You can test drive it to the Pinnacle Peak Patio restaurant, and I'll buy!!!!!!!!!

$2800 [:-][:-][:-][:-][:-][:-]

I wonder if anyone actually splurges on that?!

Aftermarket accessories are big $$ for dealerships. Back when I was a wrench turner I often got stuck installing wheels, running boards, pinstripes, etc and could not believe the mark up. A package of vinyl pinstripe costs $10, and you can do roughly 5 cars with it. I was paid two tenths of an hour labor to lay the pinstripes. And they charged $80 for it! [:-]

Kelly: Thank you and PCMforless. I got mine back and installed it Monday after work. I've driven my 07 for about 140 miles now. I noticed a big difference right away. Huge improvement over stock, better low end and much better mid range. Just makes the truck much more enjoyable to drive, easier to merge onto the eway, and quite suprising really! Easy to do, no problem experience with you guys. I recommend it to everyone. Best bang for the buck perfomance upgrade I've seen in a long while. [sm=smiley20.gif][sm=smiley20.gif] I didn't even get dirty installing it. Thanks again. I'm learnin it for a while!

I'm wondering, is it possible to fix the speedometer (recalibrate it) without changing the odometer (I like having my milage turn slower than the actual mileage ), or are the two related?

Also, what does the PCM modificaton do in terms of warranty? And leases? Does it need to be reverted back or can I trade it in as that? Just making sure.

Lastly, what should I expect to gain when using 35's... even if it's a couple MPG, that would still pay off in the long run.

I am leaning towards this service simply for the MPG increase and the acceleration gain... anything else would be a cherry on top.

I did a Magnuson Moss Warranty Act thread a ways back. https://www.hummerforums.com/m_81766/tm.htm No worries there. When your lease is up, turn it in, there is no visible indication that the PCM ever left the vehicle, and heck, you made it a better truck!! I think you can't go wrong and while IDK about a couple MPGs, you would still be moving in the right direction, and you will have a smile on your face while driving.

There is a performance parts place offering a PCM tune for the H3 for $499.00 [:@]claiming 40 HP gain? IDK what actual HP gain these things have. However, my butt dyno (term of art from Gunner45) says yeah baby, this thing woke up today and I feel the power!!! Go for it bro.

Ockie, you stinker, trying to get away with a slow odometer

When we change the speedometer to be correct, the odometer is directly related to it, so it will be racking up miles like normal again.

The dealership is not really able to detect that we have done anything to the PCM. All of the changes take place inside of the PCM, so it doesn't look any different outwardly. They can't tell it's been changed with a scan tool either. You could turn it back in with the PCM and they'd be none the wiser (except when they test drove it and think, "wow this ones got some *****!!"). Or we could set it back to stock for you, doesn't matter.

The MPG will vary from vehicle to vehicle - and also the trip you make and how you drive. All I can say is that most customers see 1-3mpg, some freaks with a little more, but at the very worst you won't lose any gas mileage.

Very cool. Thanks for your feedback!! And yes it is an easy install. No tools needed (besides disconnecting battery!)

Hey, it's a slow odometer buta legit odometer!!

Thanks for your informative post. I am thinking of pulling the trigger on this, the information and gains looks good.

Now just trying to convince the wife why I need another car part for a car that works perfectly good Or since you mentioned that it's physically the same and no one can tell.... hmmmmm
