Default hood help

well i installed a new hood louver and it weighs 25lbs and when i put the hood up it slowly comes back down.so i checked some local shops and they only have a direct replacement of the hood strut so i went to the hummer dealer and he said the same thing, they said gm never made a hood louver made of solid steel so they have no fix for it. i searched the web and cant find anything. i dont wana put my cheap plastic putco back on cause the new one rocks and everybody loves it. does any one no where i can get a pole that they used in the old day or a stronger strut. i mean i dont need much more cause it almost stays up now. i dont mind it like it is cause i am hardly under the hood and i can find anything to prop it up with but the dealer cares.any help would be great huys

Not real sure about what type of strut to tell you to get. You could always cut a broom stick to the size you need it. LOL I've done that one before myself.

I'm sure that there is one out there, you might be a little hard pressed though to do so. Most cars today have that stupid little hood prop on them.

well i went out there and if i push the hood all the way up it will stay but it does not take much for it to start to slowly come down. i did find something .it is universal so u have to measure and cut it but it clips on to the strut and then u push it in so the strut cant close so thinking of giveing that a try its only $9 at advanced auto parts.

Let us know how it works and put some pics of it up. Somebody else may need one.

And how about a pic of that new hood louver?

Do a search for hood or window strut...there are a ton of people selling them. The problem will be finding one stronger than the one you already have. I haven't looked but is there a way to double up on the struts?

This is what I was going to suggest.... they work, you just need to remember to release 'em.

I put the RealWheels solid steel hood handle combo on my H3, weighed about 20 or more pounds and it had no adverse effect what-so-ever.

Wonder if your original hood strut might just be wore down or need to be replaced,, or if I just got lucky with mine.

On a side note those plasticones do kinda suck.

Cheers

I bought the GM chrome hood louver. It's a replacement and it looks great IMO.
