Hummer H3For the Hummer driver who wants the rugged look and off road capabilities of the Hummer, but in a smaller size and with a more fuel economy friendly engine.
Its time for me to change my tires on my H3, I still have the original factories on and their pretty bald now so I wanted to put new custom wheels on and change to 20 Incher's since I have to replace the tires anyway. I was really interested in the Hostile Rage Chromes.. after searching forever and looking at so many different types I think the Hostile Rage I like in Chrome.. I wanted go with a 20X10 -19 offset with 33 X 12.5 tires. I looked at many pics of simular wheels on web in 20 X 10 offset -20 and I like the stance its just a little aggressive doesnt stick out too far.. just a bit more and with 33 X 12.5's has a little meaty look to it.. However on several websites it says they wont fit.. I dont understand why not my truck is leveled .. any comments am i missing something.. ? Thanks Bruce
H3s use Hub Centric Wheels! Stock OEM 16" diameter wheel is 7.5" wide, 6x5.5"(6x139.7mm) lug pattern, 101 mm center bore, offset is 30mm, and back spacing is 5.5". When choosing new wheels you need: 1) 6x5.5" lug pattern 2) 101 mm minimum center bore. (H3's are HUB centric, meaning that the wheels locate on the hub center, which is 100 mm, so you can't go too large on the center bore either) 3) 5.5" MAX backspace, less backspace will make tires stick out more as will wider wheels.
IGNORE offset, as it changes with wheel width. It's not an important number.
IMHO 20s look like crap on an H3..... which is an Off Road vehicle. They are not a good choice for wheeling as it results in a narrow sidewall. If you are going for the street queen look, that will do it. When I see guys with their Rimz and tires sticking out beyond the fenders, first thought is they got no idea what they were doing when they researched what to buy. Do ypurself a favor and spend the time doing your wheel and tire research.
I have been running Mickey Thompson 305/70/R16 MTZs on stock wheels for years now, which keeps the tires where they belong, in the fenders.
Hi thanks for the reply, I have researched the wheels until my eyes bleed.. I once thought too that the 20 inch looked silly and really wanted to stay in a 18" when I changed.. but there is not much to choose from in 18" , more in 20's I dont think they look too bad as long as there is plenty of tire height.. 22s and higher I dont like at all.. with the skinny tires.. I also dont want them to stick out too much but a little is fine .. as long as the tire height has a meaty look. I found out on that website that if I choose leveled then ok those 20X 10's fit.. its the - 19 offset that i am trying to figure out if it is too much where they would stick out.. seems like the bigger the diameter and the higher the neg offset they stick out further.. lower the offset towards 0 or into the positive they look stock under the fender.. In the wheel I like they come in 2 available sizes.. a 20 X 10 -19 offset and a 20 X 9 0 offset... and Im not sure whcih one to go with also whether to go with a 33 X 12.5 or a 35 tire.. with stock suspension and leveled.. here are some examples I looked at some comments I would love to hear on if Im looking and thinking correct.. I dont want to spend the money and be unhappy
Ok so this one has 35 tires on 20 X 10 but -25 offset.. the tire height is good.. but maybe just a little too sticking out ...the 20X 10 -19 offsets that I like would be a little less..
Ok even though these are 18s it shows a 0 offset with a 9 inch.. this is the stance I guess I would have with the other 20X9 0 offset...vs the 20X 10 -19 offset.. correct..
XD Rockstar 20x10 -24
Toyo Tires Open Country M/T 33"x12.5"
Leveling Kit
here is another 20X 10 -24 with 33's its sticking out too much for me .. and Im not really sure if -19 is going to reduce that amount on the wheels offset I like
Tuff T17 20x10 -19
Hercules All Country M/t 35"x12.5"
Stock Suspension
Ok this would be the closest thing to the ones I would want.. -19 offset about the same on 35's Id rather be on 33 X 12.5 but if I ordered the 20 X 10 -19's I guess this is the stance I would have vs the 20 X 9 0 offset
Ok here is the 20 X 9 with a 1 offset that would be the exact stance of the 2nd wheel choice the 20 X 9 0 offset.. of the Hostile Wheels.. and on 33's so this is what the stance would look like then.. for option #2. Im not too sure i like this it resembles too much stock look..
This last one I like alot.. I like the stance it has and how the tires look very meaty.. and the -12 offset is even less sticking out.. I like it so much I thought about just replicating the order at least I can see exactly how they look and I think these would look nice on a black hummer.. I wanted all chrome but these really look nice with the lip and black and chrome.. in any event this look wouldnt be too far off from my 1st choice of 20 X 10 - 18 on 33's
am i correct in all this thinking..? sorry if I used anyones pics that might be on this site.. just trying to figure out what to buy... thanks Bruce
.here is the Hostile Rage in a 20 X 10 -19 offset ... what do you think would ook better on a black h3 with chrome accents already... the Fuel Nutz black and chrome center or the all chrome Hostile Rage..
I have a suggestion, research your local laws regarding tires sticking outside of the fenders.
In some states, and Ontario, when your tires extend more than 1" beyond the outside of your fender you are due for a ticket. Most of your examples above are what I was talking about, guys who had no idea what they were doing. Get good at doing wheel bearing replacements as tires offset too wide put load on the wrong place of the bearing sets and will wear them out prematurely. Having your tires stick out does not look "Meaty" IMHO, they just look like you ordered the wrong rimz.
With the stock wheels 305s and 315s are just about at that 1" mark. Here is my old 07, same stuff on my 09, MTZ 305s on stock wheels to give you a perspective of proper backspace.
The H3 wheels are +38mm offset, which means the center of the wheel and tire is 38mm inwards from the mounting surface. Positive is inwards of the mount, negative would be outwards and 0 means center of wheel is flush with the mounting surface.
An oem setup sits almost flush with the body. A setup of -19mm with 33s (assuming 285s) will be the difference in offset and the extra tire width, so the wheel alone will net you 19mm+38mm = 57mm (2.3") outwards, add another 10mm (half of the extra tire width) and you get to 67mm (2.7")
