H3 transmission
 
Does a 2007 H3 have a standard 4L60E?
Does it interchange with other GM 4L60Es?
Example :2002 Tahoe 4wd.

That is a good question. I don't have an answer for you. I would ask an auto recycler. They might be able to help you out. The transfer case is mounted on the opposite side on the H3's as compared to other GM products (the driveshaft is on the passenger side and not the drivers side). If that makes a difference I'm not sure.

The 4L60E in the H3 is unique to the H3. Pan, valve body, etc..

Even the case/bellhousing is different between the I5 and V8 models. Lots of variations since the 4L60E was born from the 700R4.

4L60-E/4L65-E/4L70-E - H3

this is from the svc manual. is the "-h3" the designation?

i'd guess that the basic tranny is the same with bolt on stuff making the difference like bell housing, tailshaft, maybe the pan.
if so the main chunk may all work??

The bell housing for the H3 trannys is not removable.........cast with the the main body!

The basic transmission is the same across the board, its a 4L60e. After about 95 the bellhousing became a separate piece from the main case. There were upgrades to the internals like the number of sensors and the reliability upgrades. The H3 has all of the reliability upgrades from the factory, don't let the repair shop sell you on a "built" trans. If it is done right, the factory pieces are already the good stuff. The H3, 4x4 Colorado and Canyon share the same transmission. The pan and valve body are clearanced for the driveshaft, standard pans will not fit. The 04-05 Coly/Canyon trans might fit, but I'm not sure if it will work electrically with later trucks 100%. In 07 an extra sensor was phased in for the pump so an 06 or 07 may not work electrically with a later truck. Some other differences with the 4L60e behind the I5 and the other GM stuff are the input shaft, bellhousing, torque converter (small 245mm one), 1-2 accumulator and spacer plate. If you do get a trans from another vehicle, keep your original one as a backup to be rebuilt in case the new one doesn't play right.

I call BS, the bell housing is removable. It has to be to fit the Atlas motors on our vehicles. It also uses a weird size of torx bit to hold it on (in case you are swapping things). Ask me why I know. :mad:

The H3 4L60E doesn't come with the wide band, 5 pinion planetaries, Corvette servo, the "DENALI" sunsshell and a number of other potential upgrades!

You are correct, I should have said "factory" upgrades.

But then those upgrades would mean that it was a 4L65e and not a 4L60e...key word is "5pinion"...

My question is, will the V8 LS bellhousing bolt up to the Hummer H3 4L60E? And, is it an upgradable unit to support V8 HP?

Alphas (V8s) use the same Trans as the I5s. I think you need to use an H3 Bell Housing, you will need a Torx 50 Plus bit, and you will have to use the H3 Trans Pan.
