H3 Performance Intake Systems
OK, it came in the mail today and I drove 20 miles home to get it drove back to the office where I installed it
Anyway, it took me about an hour (answering my cell phone in the process). I couldn't believe the difference in pick up on the way home. It really did seem to have better throtlle response off of the line. Seems to run much smoother. Didn't think a simple tube could make that much of a difference. I still have the Airaid filter topless right now as I have to locate the lid
I filled up right before I got home and have alot of highway driving to do tomorrow. I will report back MPG as I get them.
This is the inside of my air box, didn't know if Doc could use it to show the 07 tube in the front:

Resinator Box and Intake tube removed:

Installed without the Airbox lid and the Airaid filter system, it will be added this weekend as soon as I locate it

Hummerguy Mike helped me with some improvements for the instructions. He really spent some time for me on that. Thanks Mike!
Thanks rhill for posting what's up, and you never know, with that Airaid open box you may have the best of both worlds, at least in cool weather. When it gets over 55F outside, I'm thinkin find that box lid.
Thanks for the pics too.
Post somewhere what you do with the ScanGuageII when you get it set up, those things are cool.

No problem Doc, I will feed Data as I get it. Really did enjoy the drive home. Just felt like it WANTED to go! Can't wait to see what it does with a PCMtune on it.
The install isn't that hard, the hardest part I had was getting the OEM snorkel out of the Airbox. Took me about 10 minutes of fumbling with it to figure out to get a SECOND screwdriver to push the tabs in, kept popping one out and the other would snap back in
Felt kind of stupid after that
Instructions really were very easy to follow if you have any idea of what's under the hood. And if you don't, it included some pretty helpful pic to help you locate everything.
I'm ordering my Scangauge tomorrow and as soon as I'm getting real numbers from it I will post them.

Doc; All I have to say is...
THANK YOU FOR THIS MILEAGE!
Pretty damn incredible. This is so far constant 95% highway driving between 60 to 70 MPH @ 40 degrees. When I got to work today I had 143 miles on my odometer and it barely moved from where it is in this picture. It looks like the highway mileage is breaking the 20 MPG barrier. I'm very impressed.

Pics speak for themselves.
This one shows the hole thru the fender, to the inner fender, air filter box removed.

The Stock H3 Air Filter Box removed, looking in the intake flange hole after removal of the stock snorkel. MAF on the far side goes toward the throttle body.

The stock Air Filter Box with lid on showing the stock snorkel thru the fender hole (top center).

Does this help? Basically, the stock systemfirst bringsin air thru a narrow platstic tube going into the passenger inner fender, outside of the engine bay to avoid underhood heated air created by the motor/exhaust etc... The AirDocIntake system replaces the narrow tube (shown back a page at post #34) with a wider and funnel shaped silicone snorkel to increase air into the Air Filter Box, the starting point of the entire intake system. If it sounds simple, it is supposed to be.
Just an update and I know this is NOT very technical, and it may not sound like much to some. But today was the first time that I've EVER hit 170 miles at half a tank! I didn't change any of my driving habits, in fact I had to "punch it" a couple of times while merging into traffic.
AirDoc,
I have been searching for intake setup ideas that utilize the stock MAF location and airbox, so I came over to the H3 forums from the Colorado/Canyon forums for ideas and stumbled across this thread.
I am not in the Detroit area, but I have lots of mechanical knowledge and could provide lots of feedback, images, writeups, and recommendations for your Colorado/Canyon setup if you would be interested. I also track my fuel mileage consistently and could provide feedback on mileage increases for the Colorado/Canyon platform.
Please PM me if you are still interested in a Colorado/Canyon test mule.
