Not quite sure how to use this site yet, but I need some information. Just got my H3 out of the shop and there was water in cylinder one can anyone tell me what kind of silicone or sealer to put on the clips underneath the hood of the fake hood vent? Thanks.

Any kind you want. There was a recall for the hood louvers flying off while driving. The fix was to take it to any GM dealer and they would use an adhesive to glue it on. Pull yours off. clean the hood and bottom of the louvers, and use any adhesive silicone sealant you like around all the clips. Leaks onto the engine are usually not a problem as a properly torqued spark plug will not let it in and the engine heat will burn it off every drive. Leaks can corrode electrical parts, coils and connectors etc...

 

Thank you! Without getting pro help I do not know what I’m doing, so afraid of messing something up. My partner of 25 years passed away a few months ago and he took care of things. Is it possible to just seal around the edges of the hood vent? It is fake one on my h3. If yes what would I use? Also I checked about the recall and it did not show I had one, so I would imagine it has been done.

 

If the dealer glued it on (performed the recall), you wont be able to peel it off to seal the clips. Open the hood and try sealing them from the bottom.

The recall was performed on mine...it still eventually came loose again. Had to clean it up and reglue it.

 

What kind of adhesive did you use, @650Hawk ?

 

I just used silicone. Make sure that you clean the surfaces well, both the hood and the underneath side of the louver panel. Then set a couple of heavy objects on it till it cures.

 

For now I have painters tape around the edges cause we are going to get some rain. I’ll try to get brave and try to pull it off! Guess worst scenario is buy new hood if it breaks.

 

There's no need to "seal" it from rain/water. The openings (4 ?) in the hood under that fake louver panel are not big enough to allow a significant amount of water onto the engine; they're just for the clips that are supposed to hold it down.
