The first Hummer H3 to be driven off the production line at Shreveport's General Motors plant put butterflies in Gaye McCarty's stomach.
"You can feel it inside," said McCarty, general assembly launch manager, who regularly put in more than 13 hours of work every day while the plant was preparing for production of the H3, which officially began Monday. "I think you can see that when you look around you. There's a lot of pride."
More than 100 GM employees cheered as the candy red Hummer was driven off by David Kitterlin, president of UAW Local 2166, and Dave Gibbons, plant manager. A jumping alligator, the plant's mascot for quality, led the H3 down the line as Tim McGinnis, the union's joint activities representative, led the cheering.
"We've got a lot to be really proud of," Gibbons told the crowd before the H3 appeared. "This is going to be a great product for all of us. Everybody loves them, everybody wants one. I think it's great for GM in Shreveport."
Yes! I was just discussing this with my girly the other day that my H3 is considered a classic / special plate (with zero emissions three years from now) I can hear the fat lady warming up now lol! NO more crummy testing.
