Ground clearance btw 08 Alpha offroad vs 09-10 Alpha offroad in brochures
Hi everyone!
I'm a new member. Happy to be here. I do not have a Hummer H3 yet, but am about to buy one. I was about to buy an 08 H3 Alpha with offroad package for a reasonably priced offroader, and I was looking through old sales brouchures for specs from Lynch Hummer and noticed something. Per the Hummer brochures, the 08 Alpha OIffroad had 9.1" of ground clearance (which seems wrong to me, it should be 9.7") and the 2009 and 2010 Alpha Offroad had 10.5" of ground clearance on the same tires. I was not aware of a significant difference in suspension setup. These published numbers are a significant difference in clearance. Can someone explain the difference or am I missing something? If I can that much extra ground clearance by just buying a newer model I will. Was just curious before I drop the cash... https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.hum...7f2876bf5a.jpg Info from 08 Brochure https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.hum...9e9835d0bd.jpg Info from 09 Brochure Thanks all! |

2006-2010 H3s are ALL the same. No super secret squirrel stuff going on. Alphas us a higher rated T Bar (I think it is like 100# +), Adventure/Off Road models came with beefier ACDelco shocks, none of which change ground clearance.
The distance from the ground to the bottom of the rear differential is a constant, larger diameter tires can change it. 08 Alpha Off Roads only had a rear locker, 9&10 added a front locker. |
Awesome, thanks!! Just wanted to confirm.

Which begs the question; which is the real ground clearance number, 9.1" or 10.5"? And where is that measured at; rear diff, front skid plate, ???

Lowest point front: skid plate, rear: shock/spring plates=9" with 33" tires. Rear diff ground clearance is 10".

Nah, not yet. I wish. I had a few unexpected expenses come up, and had to hold off for a bit. I'm hoping to get one in the next month or so.
