I took mine off in cold weather and the clips snapped, in my opinion it is not a good design the way it attaches

The problem appears to be the design, with the gripper surface on the tabs, makes you think you're supposed to push the tabs inward (towards each other) when in fact you push them outward in the direction of the molded in arrows on the cover (away from each other). Pushing them inwards snaps them off. The molded in 'gripper' surface is on the wrong side of the release tab.

I would totally have done this as that's exactly what I thought, luckily, someone beat me to it and pre snapped all of them in advance

Duct tape works just fine and it provides a good seal too.
