Just confirming what everyone else is already saying. I'm around 5700 miles now and Straight highway I'm getting around 16 MPG at 75 MPH, city, well lets just say that stop and go mileage has something to be desired. Still no worse than the pickup's that I've had. I took the crossbars off thinking that would help, not so much , at least not enough to see. Still love it though.

[:@] I'm unhappy to report that I just checked mine and came in at 14.285. That was about 90% highway driving and 10% town. However, to be fair...I did let it warm up this morning in the driveway for probably 20 or 25 mins...have no idea how much fuel it consumes at idle with the defroster on? I assume that probably gets me back to the 16 or so I thought I was getting, anyway.

My 2008 I5 averaged 15.5 mpg for the first couple of tanks, then gradually increased to 17+ mpg by 2000 miles. Thiswas 25/75 (% city/freeway) with no A/C. I am now at about 6000 miles with *** average of 17.0 mpg. I am fairly light on the pedal and try not to go over 70 mph on the freeway.

There is a noticable drop in mpg when my wife drives it around town. Ha!

I have a 2008 base automatic I5. I have added a brush guard and side steps. I avg about 15-16 miles per gallon. 75% hwy and 25% city. I am a little bit disappointed with the gas milage but I bought a Hummer not a civic. This is my first Hummer and I love it!!! I haven't felt this way about a vehical since my 2000 SS Camaro days...

As long as GM doesn't screw things up like they did with the Camaro, I will drive a Hummer the rest of my life. Poor gas milage or not.... (Be smart about it too. My soon to be wife has a much shorter commute to work....about 6 miles total. I let her take the H3 twice a week. It beats my 30 mile round trip and saves on gas.)

Good luck!

15.5 MPG on an 800 mile trip on a snowy interstate last weekend. This was with the V8 and I had about 1100 miles to start.

Things like where you fill up in the US dictates whether you'll get MPG similar to others. One is whether you fill up in a state that uses oxygenated gas or not. In the east, if you're north of the Mason-Dixon line (PA-MD border), your gas is oxygenated in the winter months. The impact is 2-3MPG difference (or more). [If you know someone with a Prius in the northeast, ask them how much their MPG drops in the winter!]

I have an 08 H3 Alpha with ~2K miles. I currently have the stock 265/70-16 tires at 30psi and recently had an oil change using Mobil 1. Before leaving for a trip to Asheville NC, with local driving my MPG varied between a low of 12.6 (stopped rush hour traffic) and a high of 17.7.

Just got back from a 1600 mile jaunt from NJ to Asheville and back. Trip can be split ino 3 legs:
[ul][*]Upper leg is basically flat highway (NJ to mid-VA via I-287/I-78/I-81). At 70MPH avg, got 15.7 using oxygenated Sh*ll regular gas and 17.8MPG using normal Sh*ll regular gas.[*]Middle leg is flat to hilly highway (mid-VA to eastern TN along I-81). At 70MPH avg, got 17.7MPG going down and 17.1MPG coming back up, both using normal Sh*ll regular gas.[*]Lower leg involves crossing a steep mountain twice(continuous climb on I-26 for20 miles to ~3800 ft at 60MPH avg) and 100 miles of local/city driving for several days. Averaged 15.1MPG.[/ul]
I'm happy with the MPG on the Alpha, and believe that the MPG may go up even higher as the vehicle breaks in further and I keep my highway MPH lower (the aerodynamics of a brick on wheels can't help at higher speeds). I had no trouble keeping my speed up hills at highway speeds with the V8 and don't believe that I paid a MPG hit compared to the I5 engine. YMMV.

On my return to AZ from buying the H3 in la Vegas i got 19.5 on the highway only. This is with an auto adventure pack. Now that i went to 35's and carry emergency gear ( 20 gal. of water , tools, etc - enough to make it sit level) I get 15 mpg mostly around town vs 17 before.
