cold issue or something worse?
Hey
My H3 (2007, 230k) has been losing acceleration while on the road. Both times it was below -20 C and I would hit around 60 kph and then lose all acceleration. I will have to cruise to the side of the road and be stuck. RPM still goes up but no acceleration. I'd have to switch it back and forth between 4x4 auto and lock. I would drive for a bit, probably not even over 40 kph and the same issue happens. Sometimes I have to put it into reverse for it to "catch" what seems like the transmission? then it will accelerate again. This seems to have only occurred when it's super cold, but in previous winters I never experienced this. Any idea on the issue, just the age of the car or something worse?

My dad had a 90's Pontiac where the transmission seals were wearing out. When the trans was cold (below normal operating temperature), it slipped as the fluid went around the seals. Once the trans warmed up, the seals expanded, fluid could not get around the seals, and the transmission behaved normally. At least that is the story I was told.
The garage tried some additive fluid to fix it; it didn't work. He got a refund on the fluid and ended up having the trans rebuilt.
