Default Clicking coming from front end

Thanks in advance for any help. I drove my 2007 h3 to work today with zero issue, parked, then left to go to lunch as soon as I pulled out i could hear clicking noise from the front when accelerating, when i let off the gas the sound goes away, doesnt matter if im going straight or turning, does it in forward and reverse. Sounds almost like when you put playing cards in your spokes of your bike wheels but more of a metal on metal sound. There is no vibration in the steering wheel, cant feel anything just hear the noise. I know it could be a few things just wondering what the most likely idea it could be.

Check the exhaust manifold for leaks.

The garage called and left a message, said the front drive shaft is bad and has to be replaced, I called back but they had closed, can someone tell me why they could just replace the u-joints?

Are you sure they did not say/mean front half shaft?

BTW ALL H3 questions go in the H3 section.
