Hummer H3For the Hummer driver who wants the rugged look and off road capabilities of the Hummer, but in a smaller size and with a more fuel economy friendly engine.
Few days ago I lost cruise control and upon further inspection I saw that my brake lights and rear turn signals(solid) stay on.
Pulled out "Brake Light Switch" and it was melted inside, by the looks of it - spring was closing loop somehow, heating up and melting plastic cavity where it was inside.
Spring lost its functionality and moving plastic part/pin that suppose to open circuit when brake pedal is depressed was also melted.
Before I I switch the "switch" and call it a day, should turn signals(yellow) also light up as solid light when brake pedal is pressed?
When I was closing loop to test it, cables(thin) I used warmed up considerably.
I am concerned that too much amperage is pulled trough and melted switch is only side effect and next switch will follow the suit of previous one.
Some other bull**** is happening somewhere, if turn signals should not stay on upon pressing brakes, will have to tear down rear end and inspect all the plugs/cables/sockets.
Took off rear bumped, took all wires apart, everything looks in very good conditions, no corrosion in plugs or trailer plug.
I will write this one off as failed brake light switch.
Only thing I am not certain, should breaking action illuminate turn signal bulb?
I have never paid attention, might be specific to American car or something is broken somewhere else.
What is circled is the reverse light, not the turn signal. Brake light/tail light bulbs are dual filament, one filament lights for brake and the other for turn signal. Same location.
Thank you Doc, I then will assume everything is as it supposed to be!
I live in Europe and never seen such configuration rear light(not that I have much experience with cars).
We are not even allowed to have reverse lights in that location, We need to move reverse lights outside, mine sits on my rear bumper, bottom.
ok then maybe they wired it wrong when it was relocated it should only light in reverse. if thats not used in your country then remove the bulbs so that it does not overload your switch again.

3157 incandescent bulbs pull 2+amps each. Switch out to led bulbs. I installed 5 led reverse lights on the cargo door, and all 5 combined, pull less than 2amps.
Thanks all for replies!
Asked around, that brake light and turn light should not lit up here in Europe when braking(law), so I messed something up.
Few months ago I restored cables in front dash and near BCM, someone did really hack job there and I restored some cut wires.
I suppose some of them were responsible for this light. Will need to restore that cut wires then!
hummerz, your setup is sweet, I have just one flimsy back up light on bumper
Case solved, indeed I had one wire cut that goes into BCM and I unknowingly restored it few months ago.
Lights are restored(while breaking turn signal bulb is not lighting up), brake light switch is fixed, day goes on.
