Best Year Used H3 to Buy??
Hi,
I’m looking to purchase an H3, my questions for the group are:
Thanks so much for any advice and direction.
I’m looking to purchase an H3, my questions for the group are:
- Of all the years produced which is the preferred year to purchase now in 2024?
- When looking at one what are the H3 “issues” I should absolutely look for?
Thanks so much for any advice and direction.
Welcome.
Depends on how you are going to use it and budget.
2006 had the 3.5L I5 and should be lower in price (adventures & lux off road with low range T Case and locking rear diff).
2007 on had 3.7L I5s, same T Case and locking rear diff options.
2008 is when the Alpha LH8 5.3L V8 arrived, followed in 09 with locking front and rear diffs available. Alphas and all 09+ adventure/off road pkgs upgraded to the cast iron front diff.
2010 saw the Alpha get a flex fuel LH9 5.3L and production numbers dropped.
If it is going to be a road queen, doesn’t much matter.
If you have some towing in your future, then get an Alpha.
If you plan on wheeling, look for an Adventure of Lux Off Road.
IMHO it’s the 09 Alpha Off Road that is why I have one.
The LH8 is much easier to do internal performance mods without the flex fuel limitations.

Ditto what Doc states.
I have a 5SP 07 H3 Adventure and the truck works great, but I would really like a locking front diff.
I would also like the newer (later model 07's and on) T-case, which is easier to do a fluid service.
I do go off road a few times a year.

There an ok looking 2008 Alpha with really low miles currently being auctioned on cars and bids. Rancho lift kit, no lockers, remote start, underbody rust

Anyone in the Detroit area want to go take a look and report back here? @TAINTER @Broken Halo
