Audio Questions
I am looking to replace my stock Nav with an aftermarket Nav and amp and connect it to the stock Monsoon speakers. I have no audio experience and need help on picking out both a new Nav and amp. I don't plan on going the cheap route either, I would like the quality to be Pioneer or better. Also, would I be able to install these components myself or would I have to take it to a shop and pay.
I just had my Kenwood DNX 9960 that I bought from the site installed. Thanks Darketh!!! I've installed a few stereos in the past. I have the upgraded factory speakers for now. Those will be replaced in the future. Anyways I got the new wiring harness from a place on amazon(Thanks again Darketh)and was going to start doing the sodering on the wires. After about 10 minutes of looking at the wiring diagram I called my local install shop and had them install it for me. I was going to do my back up camera and even had them do it. Took them about 3 1/2 hrs to do everything. Best $200 I spent. Lol Thats just my take on it. Oh-LOVING the new radio and all the great features!!!!
You should only need a new amp if you're replacing stock speakers or adding a sub. As far as a new nav unit, I bought a Pioneer AVIC-Z120BT and couldn't be happier. I looked for a Pioneer radio with all the features I wanted and the only one was the AVIC. There are other brands with all the features for 2-300 less, but I've always had Pioneer head units, because they always sound amazing.
Long story short; if you value SQ more than navigation, then I would recommend looking in to a Pioneer AVIC Nav unit. The Z120BT was upgraded to the Z130BT last year, but you can probably find a Z120BT for a much better price and aside from a couple pre-loaded programs, the hardware is identical (you can also download hacked firmware that allows you to "upgrade" to the Z130BT :P ).
In closing, I would also recommend that you have it professionally installed if you have no installation experience. Our trucks require a special adapter to keep all the bells and whistles working and, IMO, it's money well spent to have it professionally installed.

After doing some research I believe I would want a Kenwood Nav because their navigation is from Garmin which I believe is the best on the market. The only problem I have heard is that some models are very so to respond for the price they bring, is this true?
Pretty simple, make sure the units have NAV built in and it is fairly easy. If you have steering wheel controls you need an interface device for that as well. Since you have a premium set up from the factory you will have to integrate into the stock amplifier with a Metra GMOS-04. If the new Head Unit has powerfull rca preouts you might need an adjustable Lino Out Converter to take the "pop" out of the speakers. I own a car audio shop, so let me know if you have any questions.
Eliminate the simplest first, is the fader set all the way to the front? Check the wire harness (back of head unit) to ensure the rear speakers are wired up correctly. Check the wires on the speakers themselves. If all this checks out, swap wires on the harness to power up a rear speaker off a channel, if the speaker still doesnt power up the HU may be deffective.

def recommended.
