Default 3.7 swap for 06 H3

My 06 3 about to die closing in on 290,000 miles. Anybody do the 3.7 engine swap. Looking for a used engine and wanted to know if the swap is do-able. Or should I jus stay with the 3.5? Don't want the chance of buying a used engine that has the head problem.

It is doable, you just need to move to an 07 PCM, and have a dealership program it to the vehicle and new motor.

If you buy a used 3.5 out of a truck after serial number ending 287591, you do not need to sweat the head issue, everything built since then has the new hardened valve seats. Then you will need to program the 06 PCM to the replacement 3.5.

Easy swap been done several times in colorados. Here is the link with all the info. You need a 3.7 from a 2007 ONLY (colorado or H3). You will not need to swap pcm:

With an H3, you will "should" to use an 07 PCM to move to a 3.7L. H3s use a different transfer case and TCCM modules than Colly/Canyons.... depends on if you have the NR4 or NR6 T Case.

2007 PCM PN is ACDelco #19210067

You "may" not have to if your truck now has the PCM PN ACDelco #12636660 as it is cross compatible with 3 TCCMs, one of which was used with both the 06 and 07.

Do your research and figure it out. I would also add, just because the 3.7L motor "runs" with the same PCM in a 2006, does not mean it should not be reprogrammed.

Default H3 engine swap from 3.5 to 3.7

Hello everyone.. newbie here.. replaced my 2006 H3 3.5 with 2010 3.7.

Differences are crankshaft positioning sensor is a 3 pin instead of a 2 pin. Sensor is also longer than 2006.
Only 1 camshaft sensor, 3.5 two

Engine starts but runs rough. Took in to programmer and using blu-tek tried to relearn crankshaft positioning sensor with no luck.

tried 2007 ecm and connectors different

Any help would be appreciated

Or am I doomed to pull and replace with different engine??

Thanks!

I am just trying to figure out why you would go to a 3.7 from a 3.5?? All the work that is involved I think I would go with a V8 or a diesel. at least it makes more sense to me especially if you are paying someone to do the swap

Ouch, that's rough swapping it in and not having it work out for you. I wonder if you'll have to swap entire wiring harness/PCM/etc over to the 2008+. I read that only the 2007 3.7 is a direct swap for the 3.5 other than a few tweaks. The transmissions and all those other parts are the same regardless, so maybe with a newer wiring harness/PCM setup it would work.

Let us know if you figure it out.

Looks like you can get one of the newer engine harnesses off eBay as well as the newer computer. I figure you'll probably need 08+ on everything since you have an 08+ 3.7 (2007 model was different). I am just going off of my knowledge and assumptions but I would think with the newer engine wiring harness, newer PCM and TCM it should work fine because you will literally have transplanted everything that changed into your 2006. 2008 plus vehicles have a separate computer that controls tranny shifts whereas the PCM controls it all on the 2006-2007). All of those parts should swap right on since you have the 2008+ motor.

Since you already have the motor in and all might as well try the wiring harness, PCM/TCM and see if it works fine after that.

Definitely let us know if it works out for you, I have an 06 as well with a lead on a really nice 3.7. If it works out for you I'll be doing the same

I just pulled out a 3.5L from a 06 H3 and installed a 3.7L out of a 08 Colorado (75kmi and got the whole truck delivered for $750, which is why I didn't hunt down a 07)

Added the port for the second Cam sensor, swapped out the crank sensor, used the 3.5L intake. Fired right up and idled smooth, still in the shop as of now so no road test, swapping out a rear quarter and painting satin black.

Awesome man, that's what I like to hear. Keep us posted after a road test and driving around on it for a while. How did you add the port for the second cam sensor? And did you have your computer reprogrammed for the 3.7?
