Default 2006 H3 Electrical problem.

First time post, but have found plenty of help here in the past.

Our H3 will stall/stop running after running anywhere from 15 minutes to a half hour. Engine not being tasked or no sudden movement either.Battery light illuminates after engine stops which is normal.

Precautionary, had battery and alternator checked at local auto parts store. There readings matched mine with a voltmeter. Both were good. 12.6V on battery and 14.3 on Alternator.

What would be the most common cause in the membership’s experience?

Thinking of trying a reset by putting disconnected battery cables together for 15-20 seconds. Have also seen the Crankshaft Position Sensor mentioned online as well.

Look forward to what your thoughts are!

Forgot to say:
H3 will start right back up either after stopping the H3 or by coasting and having transmission in Neutral.

Our H3 will stall/stop running after running anywhere from 15 minutes to a half hour. Engine not being tasked or no sudden movement either. Battery light illuminates after engine stops which is normal. Strange part is it will start right back up immediately and run for another extended time period and stall/stop running again.

Precautionary, had battery and alternator checked at local auto parts store. There readings matched mine with a voltmeter. Both were good. 12.6V on battery and 14.3 on Alternator.

What would be the most common cause in the membership’s experience?

Does the engine cut out at all engine speeds, or only when the engine is idling?

Welcome to HF. I merged your threads into the H3 section where all H3 tech questions go. Miles on the vehicle is always important, as well as a description of any work done to it just before the current problem presents itself.

Holding battery terminals together does nothing for late model GM vehicles. The H3 stores the last 300 ignition cycles power or no power.

Are you still trying to use the crappy azzed OEM battery Terminals? If so, easy stuff first. Get rid of those OEM Battery Terminal Connectors and replace with a quality aftermarket set like Stingers or your favorite brand. The OEM Terminal Connectors are defective junk, they will eventually allow inconsistent connections causing a myriad of electrical Gremlins. Know issue, get rid of them.

Idles fine. Only does when vehicle is in motion.

Thank you Doc, I’ll start there as you said simple stuff first.

H3 has 275,000 miles and is due a cylinder head rebuild as I have a lifter start to make its presence known.

I installed the Stingers that just arrived today, a SPT53102 on the positive and a SPT55301on the negative. Will advise if it was the fix in a couple days.

Do you suggest filling the void in sockets with a red RTV to weather proof?

No, not necessary.

First time out with new battery terminals installed, H3 died 3 times, but started right back up and would go say 20 minutes and die again.

Could something be going on in the alternator after it heats up? Say the regulator or a diode?
