Hummer H3For the Hummer driver who wants the rugged look and off road capabilities of the Hummer, but in a smaller size and with a more fuel economy friendly engine.
So, where I work we stock alot of AAM differential parts. Since I have a 2007 Hummer H3 - I decided a long time ago to purchase AAM kit# 74080005. Iv'e had the kit for may years now -- just sitting on the shelf incase I needed it. I have had several calls looking for this kit or just the intermediate axle shaft (GM 12479254 or AAM 40045261).
Question is: Has anyone found a source for these?.. What have yall' been doing if this part goes bad?
I decided to finally look into having the intermediate axle shaft (GM 12479254) and the output shaft shaft splined coupler (AAM 40017351) fabricated and offer a kit. I doubt this will be cheap by any means and I have probably have to commit to 10pcs or so to get a slight pricing discount.
I have talked to several of our normal suppliers / machinists as well as the normal 2 big axle/diff companies. I decided to finally crack open the new kit and send the 2 pieces out to the first company to get a price quote. I am still waiting to get the quote and then I might possibly send them to another company to be quoted as well..
..Just curious what other H3 guys have been doing when there's have went bad..??
I broke 2 on 2 different H3s while wheeling. I always carried a spare. Use to get them directly from the dealer parts guy who would give me cost plus 5% (under $100 if I recall).
I bought the AAM 74080005 once also so I could nave new bolts and gaskets.
Looks like both are no longer in stock. If you have them made and list them on eBay I'm sure you will sell through your 10 pc minimum.
I eventually went SAS (HP D44) since I wanted lower gear ratio and I would try more difficult obstacles after conquering the current one resulting in breaking or tweaking some part of the IFS.
Hi there, just wondering what the outcome was for getting the shafts made. I broke mine last Saturday and can't find a new one anywhere. Now if somebody had one that can measure the length for me I could make a new one. If other people are interested in some too I could make more at the same time. It's a lot easier to make 10 than just one. Thanks.

I would think that the best way to make one/some is to visit a local pick-n-pull and place one in your hands. If I were to make them, that is where I would start. If you buy the entire used Hummer H3 Front Axle Differential Carrier you would have your part and it might be easier to just swap that in place of yours as a unit to get you back on/off the road. If you made some for sale, you could recover what you paid for the entire unit.
Please let us know how it goes.

We sell these AWD shafts for another GM platform and can have a run made pretty easy if there is a demand. The coupler is a whole different project but I wonder how many of those are being broken vs shafts

Every time I had a shaft break (3), never the coupler. If you make a run of them post it so I know and I can refer people to ya.
Even though I can't run many of your parts anymore (SAS/SOA) I still recommend https://www.outfitterdesign.com regularly. Great parts and AWSOME customer service!

I'll buy your H3 AWD Shaft when available so I can have one in the parts stash for when/if I need it.

Sounds good I will post up if we can turn this around quickly
We havent run a stock front diff in years but it was interesting that the old diffs we pulled apart to get a sample of the intermediate shaft all had worn out splines on the coupler side. This will fix that problem!

Oh sure, bring it out right at the Holiday season. I am in, but got to wrap up the year end books and recover from gift giving. I will get on it in a few weeks for sure.
Thanks for following through, sounds most excellent.
