HELLO,thanks for all of advice in choosing between I5 /and or alpha. went with alpha, mainly daily driver, wife loves it! BUT..... power steering is not great, I read where some problems may be with pump!? NHTSA#ID 10032462 is it just a faulty pump ? other problems or some other cure and/or problems? did get a driveline warranty but havent called dealer yet,,, 2hrs drive. any cures/answers from the hummer world?

 

First I have ever heard about any power steering issue with the pump????

The only H3 steering issue I was aware of is the OEM steering rack mount can come loose and allow rack movement.

 

Haven't heard of the pump being an issue either. I have heard of the pump and the reservoir separating or the reservoir having a crack in it.

Drain all the fluid and replace with the proper synthetic fluid.

I have read about people using regular fluid and the steering was sluggish.

X2 on the OEM mount being a piece of junk!

 

The pump is ok, I would drain it and refill with the recommended fluid. I use redline D4 and have never had a issue. The steering rack mounts can be a issue, there are kits for this. I used the Mayham kit on mine. Also the steering intermediate shaft has been known to feel clunky due to wear.
These are not major problems to fix, and if you do your own work its not expensive and is probably a one time fix.
