Hummer H2 For those who like a little more gleam to their Hummer, the H2 offers a similar rugged look as the H1, but as a lower cost, and with more added features, making it almost a massive luxury SUV.

What do you think of H2s with new engines in them?

Default What do you think of H2s with new engines in them?

When you see a H2 with new engine put into it. Example new motor at 125k. Do you think that H2 has problems and should be avoided or does having the new crate engine look attractive to you?

If it's the 6.0, it was barely even broke in. They're notorious for going over 300,000 miles. A new engine already, while a good selling point, does leave one to ponder what sort of lack of maintenance the vehicle has had.

I'd be looking at the transmission fluid first, then the transfer case and both differentials.

Keep in mind these drivetrains work hard with just normal driving. You're talking 8,000 lb everywhere you go..... Picture a full size pickup always hooked up to a 3500 lb trailer. Maintenance is the key to these. Very durable if maintained religiously....

I look at the entire truck and make a decision on how the truck was maintained, some engines fail early and some last forever and lack of maintenance can accelerate the failures.
So for me a new engine does not always mean bad things.

Hey Robert, It was the 6.0. 06 H2 LE Sut. I know those are pretty hard to find. 150K now. Got it for 17K. I have had to put 4K into get it back up to speed. 2K suspension and brakes. The rest cosmetics, chrome , fluid, rear air suspension bags. It drives incredible now. Overall , I am happy but do feel there was lack of maintenance on the vehicle over the years. Ty for comment , enjoyed your insight.

Hey Neal, thanks for your insight. I ended up buying the H2 back in Nov. I have been documenting the process of the restoration on my YouTube channel. It?s coming along extremely well. Overall the H2 had some good and some bad on it. Runs extremely well now. Going to turn heads at car shows this year. Cheers

I picked up my 2003 H2 couple years ago, about 110,000 miles on it $14,000. Pretty much have been neglected mechanically, body was perfect. I think I spent close to 7 months taking care of everything.... Been running flawlessly ever since. My wife even prefers driving it over her 2014 escalade. I don't think there's any way I would ever sell it.

Great work, funny enough I?ll tell friends and people if you buy an H2 your wife will likely start driving it and you?ll never see it so you might as well buy 2!

For me personally, Rust is the deal breaker. I honestly think it would be easier to replace the driveline than to attempt to reverse salt damage..... I have had 3 H2's and 1 H3 - The H3 I drove for a few years in Northern NH while I lived there, The road salt absolutely rusted the underneath & brake lines. I remember one winter wondering why my drivers door was acting odd closing, ICE had built up between the bottom of the fender & the door & was bulging it - lol.

I would welcome a new engine as long as install when done, looked as before cosmetically & mechanically in the engine bay- if body & interior are great - you have something to work with, All of us, that have these as keepers, fix the issues as they occur.

My current H2 was bought in the south and has no rust - It will never travel north.

My 2 cents, from someone with OCD......

Congrats on rig! Post some pics!
