I'm just north of Seattle. Keep in mind, everything costs more in the PNW.

Is your transmission fluid Black? If yes then it needs rebuilt/replaced. If still red, try drop the pan and replace the transmission filter.

No, not black, still has color to it.

I've never had to replace a transmission on a vehicle ever, so this is all new to me. I'm assuming the worst case scenario of a total replacement.

I've never had to replace a transmission on any vehicle I have owned either, over 40yrs. Maintenance is the key to success.

Would a full trans flush be in order first? Again, not my domain here, never had a tranny prob before.
