Default Transfer Case rebuild questions

Hello all-

rebuilding the Borg Warner 4484 due to a shredded star gear. Pretty straight forward with everything so far but I have a quick question I need some help with. Is anyone able to detail the planetary gear assembly/timing? I understand all dots need to face outwards for timing but once complete, does it matter from there how it’s placed into the shaft splines? Also, what are the blue links on the chain for? I’m assuming also lining up with something, but if so, what? Other than those questions, pretty straight forward rebuild. I would appreciate any help.

No problem. Yeah things must be times right or it will all just bind up which could be a disaster.... Good luck with it!

Yea I understand. I guess my issue is how to ensure it’s all right? When I place it on the shaft, I can spin the chain freely while the planetary gears spin as well and when I pull the shift fork up, I can feel it engage into gear but it won’t freely turn an entire rotation. Should it spin freely even when the shift fork is pulled up placing it in gear? Thank you

That I'm not sure of.... have not pulled a tcase apart myself. Someone else might know for sure. That doc is official GM instructions though so hopefully it is enough.
