the tech 2's have a y2k bug. it you get a rtc failed at boot up just set the date between the late 90's you can try early 2000 it should stop failing rtc.

 

I have it set for the current date. Should I be backing that date up 15 or 20 years?

My Tech2's rtc complains every time I boot it up. As bronxteck has said it's a 2000 year issue. Don't worry about it, the tool will work just fine.

Also, there is a small coin style battery on the motherboard, for real old Tech 2's if you find the tool continually crashes after boot up you will need to split the Tech 2 case and replace it. Again not a big deal.

 

I bought one from the link above as well a few weeks ago for an 09 I recently purchased with a few issues. Fired up and worked great on the first try. Took a few stumbles through the menus but eventually found my way around. Was really helpful manually activating the fans to confirm both were working, one has an odd squeal but otherwise both function fine. Haven't found the need to go deeper and try to program anything but good to know it is there if needed.
