Yes. That's why the OP is looking for a salvaged vehicle.

 

Not sure if theft deterrent system is involved. Everything connects to this particular module. We have owned it for 4 years. Puzzled!!!!

 

what exactly is the issue you are having?

 

I replaced my onstar module from my 2009 Hummer h2. I swapped it out with one from a salvaged GMC Sierra 1500. Works perfectly. All I had to do was call onstar, go through a couple tech support supervisors, and then get it reprogrammed to match my vehicle information. If you don't get it reprogrammed it will work but when diagnostics run it will think its a chevy Silverado on onstars end for example.

 

I cut the power to OStar on my first H3 as soon as the free service was over, same with the second, got no use for it.

 

Do you recall what year Silverado was comparable or the VCIM?
