Default Replacing exhaust in 2003 H2 in 2024

Happy new year everyone!

I need to replace the exhaust on my 2003 H2 this year.

A few years ago, I found a really cool YouTube video showing a bunch of different exhaust noises on the H2 (magna, cat back, borla...). I CAN'T FIND THE VIDEO ANYMORE ☹️

was wondering what everyone's suggestion would be for in terms of a cool sounding exhaust. Nothing crazy loud, but something cooler than the stock one I have.

Any guidance appreciated.

Thanks y'all!

This is one of those highly subjective questions, speaking for myself I just love the sound of dual exhaust with full size mufflers on each side. The H2 has always needed dual exhaust but unfortunately it didn't get it from the factory.
Duals sound great when you jump on it, they have a nice mean low note rumble when idling but they don't draw unnecessary attention. Flowmaster series 40's come to mind, there stainless so it should be the last muffler you should have to buy.

Can't stand anything that drones, raps or pops when you let off of it, just want the sweet sound of the engine!

I'm definitely interested in dual exhaust later on. I have a 2008 and found out that a long Magnaflow muffler was previously welded on. I did replace the "air sculpture" with a AirDoc aluminum tube keeping the stock airbox and I think the engine sounds a bit better.

The air doc is a good idea, I have Borla on mine, it's not loud at all, but sounds way better than stock, does Borla still make the H2 kit? Seems to me they discontinued it.

I previously change my whole system with AFE Cat Back but I hate the drone sound in the cabin. Recently change only the mufler with SoundFlow Dual 3" in out and satisfied with the sound and also the the fuel economy.

If my muffler craps out this is what I plan on installing then having a duplicate tail pipe made for the drivers side off the muffler. No droning, no rapping and no popping, just a great exhaust note, good flow and you can hear the engine when you jump on it!
Best part other then having to have a tail pipe made for the drivers side its an easy install/upgrade.

The first exhaust stuff I did was replacing the muffler on the stock setup with a Flowmaster Big Block 50 Series. Sounded awesome but droned bad on the highway. Then got lucky and scored what was probably the last GM Performance Parts stainless cat-back setup (made by Borla with their touring muffler) for $300 from a guy who used to own a Hummer dealership. Once I snagged that I went ahead and got a set of OBX long tube stainless headers with high flow cats and installed those along with the GMPP setup. Sounded perfect at that point - nice rumble, no sort of popping or anything and no droning.

Here’s mine… dual in dual out magnaflow 11” with an x pipe. Both pipes are run straight back to the passenger side and tucked up for clearance.

It’s got a little bit of sound at 65mph on the highway but it’s not annoying just a nice low rumble. Not even my mom complains about it so that’s pretty good in my book. it only burbles and pops in tow/haul otherwise it’s really clean. It’s also quiet around the 2000-2500rpm range so i can still road trip with a trailer.

there are also 14” 18” and 20” muffler options if you like quieter, but I wouldn’t change a thing. I’m really happy with it. Exhaust shop charged $350 to install

Sounds great Gavin! Maybe the only thing I might do different would be an H instead of an X pipe. H tends to give a bit lower sound and more lower end increases versus an X which favors higher ends.

Gavin, that has a nice clean sound and the Supercharger really makes the H2 really come alive give that 6500lb beast a real kick in the ***! I echo Mixman's sentiment about the H vs X, I have always used X pipes on high reving performance and used H pipes when I want the extra torque and low rumble. Either way its good to use them on larger displacement engines.
