Default Replacing the camshaft question 2004 Hummer h2

Has anyone here ever replaced the camshaft on a Hummer while the engine was still in the engine bay? If this is possible, what all did you have to take off the front to get enough room to pull our the cam? Is it even possible or do I need to pull the whole engine?

Remove all necessary parts to pull/clear the cam. Pull the hood to make it easier to work on.

Ok so what all needs to be taken off to make room for the cam? like what else other than the radiator? Do I have to take off part of the front frame? Bumper? Would it be easier to take out the engine?

How does the frame and bumper become an obstruction?

You will need to pull the radiator and condenser to clear a cam change and be able to get the oil pan off to remove front cover.

If you are lucky you might be able to move the condenser enough to not have to have the AC evacuated but I'm not sure on the H2. From what I've read you can do it on the full size trucks just removing the radiator (and obviously the fan, etc) and can move the condenser enough to do it. I've wanted to put a very mild cam in both my GMC and my H2 but have just never had the time to really look into much. If you do it I'll be very curious to what it takes.

I replaced the cam in my '09 in Dec. That's a 6.2L VVT, not 6.0L. I'm not sure if there is any difference in clearance. Didn't need to pull motor. I had to move condenser/coolers, radiator. The length of the cam is the only issue. I left the hood on and reached in from sides and bottom. It's not a bad job. I also did some head work, so my job was a bit more involved.
