Hummer H2 For those who like a little more gleam to their Hummer, the H2 offers a similar rugged look as the H1, but as a lower cost, and with more added features, making it almost a massive luxury SUV.

Default Please help Speedometer

I recently bought a 2004 H2 and the speedometer has stopped working. Its stays on 120 mph. I was told this was a recall issue, but could not find any info on it. Does anyone know if this was a recall and if I could get it replaced for free? If not how much would something like this cost to get fixed?

Any info on this issue would be greatly appreciated, thanks

Its not a recall. It needs a $3.00 stepper motor replaced is all. If you are comfortable soldering and following some directions you can replacement them yourself if you want rather easily. It requires removing and dissasembling the instrument cluster and then desolder the older stepper motor and solder a new one in. If you have any other gauges that might be flaky you might as well replace those stepper motors while you are in there since they are cheap. You can find the stepper motors on eBay and Amazon as well as places you can send the cluster to and have them replace them if you want (they can also upgrade the lighting to LED in colors, new gauge faces, etc).

Try this google search - https://www.google.com/search?biw=25...or+replacement

You will find plenty of info on replacing them. Will see a LOT more links regarding GM trucks and SUV's for the same years since they use the exact same cluster.

The mileage is stored in the cluster so no, not unless you drive it a lot with the cluster removed (it will drive just fine that way). My personal opinion, using it for a few miles with the cluster removed for some repairs does not affect mileage and not something to worry about. Driving for thousands of miles without the cluster on the other hand would be a different story.

You can also just swap the cluster from any GM truck or SUV that is the identical style and it will just plug right in and work. You will however then have whatever mileage is on the replacement cluster. There are companies that can reprogram them to your correct mileage for you as well if you went with a replacement cluster. Many of the larger cluster services like US Speedo (they are very good but not cheap) can do it all for you including fully customizing a cluster, programming the correct mileage, etc.
