Parts?
Go for it and take that Hummer for a trip. There are very few parts on an Hummer that will break and create a major problem for you. Especially if your on top of maintenance. Drive train parts usually just don't crap out but give you warnings they are on there way out. On my prior 05 H2 I had a front half shaft bearing going out but it warned me by getting louder and louder and I changed it about 2k later.
Door panels and plastic interior parts are an inconvenience but that's about it and they should not affect a trip or leave you broken down on the side of the road. As far as parts for the 03-07 there are a wealth of parts in salvage yards that can easily be gotten, though some can be expensive but they are a snap to get as many others here have said. Many new parts are available through GM or Rock auto, GM having shared the H2 with the GM 2500 truck platform was a godsend for us owners. And the H3 shares a ton of parts with the Colorado and Trailblazer too so your good to go there as well.
For the H2 there are only a few parts that are really difficult or no longer available to find, Any year sun-roofs nearly impossible and junkyard ones are usually worse then what you already have. And if you have the optional Air suspension, the compressors there out there but new ones are expensive, but you can easily convert to rear springs for under a few hundred and eliminate that issue. The 08-09 ABS/Master cylinders are getting more difficult to find, and new and super expensive.
I easily drove will over 50k on my past 06 H2 going all over the US on road trips, putting nearly 140k+ in total on it before selling it off with never having any breakdowns, just routine maintenance. And the only reason I sold it was to buy the 08 I have now.
They are a fantastic road trip vehicle, very comfortable, quiet and smooth with plenty of room . Sure footed in every environment and fun to drive. The only downside was the fuel they use but actually that wasn't that bad in the lower altitudes usually around 12.8mpg. Plus they excel in the snow and nothing stops them. On top of that they are super safe! In all honesty I would rather take my H2 on a long road trip than my wife's XT5 which is AWD.
For the road and long haul, give me an H2. Tall and proud, they truly are like nothing else!

8 to 10 miles per gallon? You must have oversized tires and a lift kit or something. When I got mine at averaged just under 12, but ditching the cold air intake and putting everything back to stock I can hit 14 miles per gallon at 65 mph on level freeway. 12.5 running around town all day. Overall average is well into the 13 mile per gallon territory. My wife's 2014 Escalade gets 17.5 miles per gallon on the highway, but we both prefer to take the H2 a long road trips. Actually rides better than the Escalade because of the weight, overall more comfortable and a safer feeling. And the deeper the snow you run across the more fun it is, LOL.
Thank you for the feedback on the overall feel of their ride. We are going to test drive one this weekend to see how we like it. I think the Hummer is a good compromise between a Class B (which is very expensive to insure) and a truck (which may not have as much space as an H2). We are trying to strike a balance between price, available space, convenience to drive (RV's are pretty much off our list), and the ability to handle aggressive weather. Insurance for a Hummer is not through the roof.

here in the big city it's 15 schoolzone- 25mph local road and 50 on the highway. stop sign or red light at every corner / intersection. i get 8.6 mph driving in D3 gear helps a tiny bit.
it really suprises me that you get that mileage from an 03-07. hell i would even go as far as to say there is somthing not right with your calculations LOL. i think you car is an exeception not the rule of norm.

I think there are tradeoffs with dedicated road trip vehicles. You can go with a Class B, and have tons of space, then be drowned in expensive repairs and maintenance. I would rather spend money on a super reliable vehicle, with just enough space, lower maintenance bills in the long run, and a predictable fuel bill.
For what its worth my 05 SUT got a consistent 13.1 mpg (it also had the factory bed hard cover) my 06 SUT got 12.8 and my 08 SUT gets as low as 12.0 up to 13.2 but this greatly depends on the temperature outside, most of the time it averages about 12.5 but is alot quicker with the 6.2 so I expect it to be a little less.
Lets fact it, Heavy, Brick Shaped, 81 inches wide, Large displacement, 4WD running gear and low diff ratios you really can't expect to much mileage out of them, especially when you bolt on some big tires and lift them up making them even worse aerodynamically. Personally I think they did great for what they are!

Oh yeah, 70 to 80 mph for stop & go in town and the H2 will suck a lot of fuel. I have a 22 Mile commute on a level 55 mph State highway out here in Oregon. I have one stop sign on the way to work, that's it. Road and traffic conditions make a huge difference. Having recently gone through the engine, I'm monitoring the fuel mileage closely and I'm still sort of in that break in phase. So I don't drive it hard by any means.
The two biggest factors that increase eficiency were new injectors, and getting rid of the previous owners cold air intake. Most of them will add a couple horsepower at the top end but sacrifice bottom end torque, which kills fuel mileage especially in town.
