Parts?
Hello all! We are considering a used H2 for extended road trips. The H2 caught our eye because of the space and overall durability. One of our requirements for a road trip vehicle purchase is the availability of parts. Years ago, we were driving a Chevy truck and broke down in Holbrook, AZ, which is slightly "middle of nowhere." Due to us having a plain 'ol Chevy truck, the mechanic in this tiny town had us back on the road inside of 3 hours.
My question: What is the availability of parts for H2's, circa 2007-2010? If we broke down in a small mid-west town, would we be down for several days or left searching through a junkyard for parts?
TIA!

Most of the vehicle was built using off the shelf GM parts. While some unique parts such as the inside door panels are hard to find at a decent price, mechanical items are everywhere and shared by many GM models. It will share parts with pretty much every GM pickup and SUV from 2000 to 2014. My 2003 H2 has an identical radiator to our 2014 Escalade. Radiator hoses and heater hoses as well. I think you do much better breaking down and finding parts with an H2 in the middle of nowhere than with an import of any kind. One visit to rockauto.com will show you what's readily available, and for the most part very affordable.

Agree I've had no problem getting parts with exception of gas tank, had to find a used one, talked to every gm dealer on earth no one could cross reference that tank to any other gm, mines a 2003, not sure I'd pick it for long trips though the gas would crush me
I found the GM parts online website very useful. Grab the GM part number and just Google that part number, you'll find the item readily available usually. I've tried Amazon with no luck on some parts, simply because the application is not listed. So I get the part number and search results show Amazon has it. AC Delco has a presence on Amazon, a part number search is much more effective because they don't show the applications on their listings. General rule of thumb is always go with AC Delco if you can. It's just not worth going for the cheaper parts, more often than not you'll be replacing that with an AC Delco. The PCM seems to be very sensitive to off brand sensors, especially with the camshaft position sensors. In fact the only off-brand item I've had success with is the O2 sensors. Went with Bosch and they're doing just fine. Generally speaking you got an LS engine that shared with millions of GM products. Same thing with the transmission. The front suspension and whatnot is a Chevrolet 2500 I believe. The transfer case is almost identical to what's used in the tahoes, Yukon, escalates etc, except it has a few more interior parts. It's the same readily available rebuild kit. If you do your own repairs, invest in some heavy duty jack stands. My 30-year-old car ramps simply crushed when I pulled the front end up on them, LOL. Now I just use the floor jack and jack it up and set it on a pair of 6 ton jack stands. Get the ones with the safety pin in them.
The parts that you will have a hard time finding are the interior parts, door panels, dash trim and so on. Those won't leave you stranded, but it is something to consider. That and the 8-10 MPG.
But there is nothing like a nice H2
