Hummer H2For those who like a little more gleam to their Hummer, the H2 offers a similar rugged look as the H1, but as a lower cost, and with more added features, making it almost a massive luxury SUV.
Zapshd, and I am sure your probably going to come to this conclusion very soon if not already. You really need a Tech 2 if you wish to hold onto your H2. This tool can be purchased under $300 now and it will pay for itself the first time you use it and nail down a problem.
Not only that they have great resale so it won't be something your stuck with when you sell of your H2. I have a friend that recently sold of his 06 C4 Vette and sold off his Tech 2 shortly after selling the car. He actually sold it for what it paid for it! For a H2 the Tech 2 is the holly grail and worth its weight in gold. Ask anyone here!
Having owned 3 H2's I can tell you I have saved thousands and thousands of dollars by having it. If your a little tech savy and decent with a wrench its a must have for your toolbox and there are a bunch of us here that really know how to use them.
yeah i need one i know. i still have my old snapon red brick for working on my 89 vette. from the little research i did
a while back, real tech2s are getting scarce, and the i would probably be getting a chinese knockoff true?
Great, glad you nailed it down. I have seen crazier things happen to an H2 such as a LED bulb in the taillight of a used 05 I had just bought causing the cruise control not to work, that one took me days to find. haha

Funny you mention the Bulb being out and the cruise not working. My 09 has a sometimes it will in gauge...sometimes it will not. The steering wheel cruise control power on LED lamp is lit but when you it the start cruise button ...Na-Da..? Then after you play with the Power off and on ..it might start working again. Maybe I'll check my Rear lamps????
Sounds like a Bad connection somewhere down the harness line?
ABS sensor....yep, exactly what happens when you design vehicles with so many modules interconnected. I think the battery disconnect was a coincidence. 30 years from now, H2S on the road will all be converted to a standalone PCM, aftermarket gauges, and directly wired switches for Windows, locks, etc. Most other vehicles will be junked out....but some will be worth keeping. H2s, Vetted, etc Just have to learn to live without the 'rear hatch ajar' notice, like in 1972
Newer Cars=High Tech, Complication and low longevity

And....it will be more reliable!
So true, This thread makes me think about the new cars of today. Super high tech LCD instrumentation, embedded electronics and control systems. Look at the latest GM-LAN canbus systems, multiple sub-processors nodes everywhere. Its going to be nearly impossible to keep these newer vehicles on the road anywhere near what you could do with older cars. And its getting to a point where you won't even to be able to hook up a scanner without a GM access subscription even if you have thousands of dollars of the latest test equipment required to talk to these systems.
As my friend says, new cars are much like Bic disposable lighters, when their empty or don't work you just throw them away, so much truth in that comment. As it is even the dealerships have a great deal of problems just employing tech's that can actually work on and fix this new stuff. lol,
Its so funny as we all sometimes complain about our old Hummers and how complicated they are when trying to nail down obscure problems.
I love my H2 but sometimes long for my old 72 El Camino SS 454. It was a simple Chevy big block with turbo 400 and a Posi. About the most complicated thing was the 8 track. She was a fuel ***** sucked gas like an offshore racing boat but she was so simple, easy to fix and so much fun to drive.
Like many have said, you can never go back! Oh well, moral of the story, enjoy what you have today. The days of cracking open a beer under the shade tree with your buddies and tinkering are quickly sliding away. I think us true gear heads will miss it when its gone but we will always have the memories.
I agree. I still have a 70 big block elcamino. Lol
there a guy on YouTube I been following. He’s been building up his h2. He had 5:13 gears done
and has been having trouble with them. He just did the deisel conversion blew the front diff which took out the oil cooler which may have blown the motor. 75k into the h2 and he may be back to square one. The abs sensor was only $39. lol.
Trueissums are spoken here. We have reached the point of throwaway as mentioned above. I'm in electronics and love the old vintage audio gear. The new stuff with all the latest tech is a repair nightmare. Just pull a board and replace it. All SMD Devices (Sub Miniature Devices). They abound in all the new cars and yes even in my 2009 H2 in the Fricken Mirrors. It's only getting worse.
Right now I am tuning up my 502 BB in my 65 Vette. Plugs, Wires. Distributor Cap. So easy. It does have MSD Fuel Injection. But that seems to be stable. The dash is Dakota Digital. Still stable. But they will be a replaced and thrown away when they poop the bed.
They have actually added more problems to these cars. Computer talking to Computer ..lines of code with hidden bugs. I can't think of one new car I would buy. If you are very well off and have plenty of coin....then you have no worries. Just buy another one if it comes down to the $5 K repair bil.
When my H2 is out of action, I drive my 86 CJ7. Generation 1 small block Chevy, Holly carburetor, turbo 350 transmission I built, went through the entire drivetrain. Every single bearing has been replaced. Made my own complete wiring harness. Completed it 2 years ago. It just works. Doesn't even have a check engine light, LOL. And nothing wrong with roll up Windows
