Hummer H2For those who like a little more gleam to their Hummer, the H2 offers a similar rugged look as the H1, but as a lower cost, and with more added features, making it almost a massive luxury SUV.
so I.m an above average mechanic, have numerous vehicles, muscle cars etc.
I bought an 07 H2 about a year ago, probably driven 8,000 miles by me. has 103,000 on it now.
Other than leaking cab lights that I fixed, the truck is 100 % , absolutely no issues.no rattles, perfect door panels,
I know that people who are happy with vehicles dont write in the forums usually only ones that have problems do.
anway there are so many issues that we read about on our trucks, am i realistically going to see them?
from cheap tailgate and door handles to ****ty door panels,cracked exhaust manifolds etc the kiss of death statement is how we shouldnt tempt the gods about problems we dont have lol
my truck is in great shape and relatively low mileage but i dont think it was babied or taken above average care of.
just surprised how well it does for a 17 year old truck
You will likely have those problems eventually. It all depends on environmental factors and how your truck is used. Baby it or not, it’s mostly a matter of when not if. You could be fine for another 10 thousand or another hundred thousand miles. Unfortunately things age and there’s nothing you can do about it. The best way is to keep on top of problems as they arise and not put them off because you end up with a laundry list with thousands of dollars that looks like it’s not worth fixing.
Most vehicles at some point in their lives will go through a phase where everything that can break, breaks, but you’ll eventually get through it and be reliable again. It’s always a shame when people sell a truck like this because it has “too many problems.” But 99% of the time it’s because the truck sits without being driven and/or is unmaintained. The “kiss of death” notion is mostly bull****.
People whine about parts availability but just about every major part for the h2 is available. The only exception being cosmetic parts. In fact I’d say the h2 has better parts availability than a lot of new vehicles. For example, Stellantis ecu’s are almost non existent for post 2010 vehicles. just watched Ivan from Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics try to replace an ecu on a ram pro master. They literally don’t exist. Same with a Jeep JK he did.
In all honesty the h2 is one of the best vehicles ever built. You just can’t go wrong with the gmt800 platform.

Sure, you can have a box on wheels, but it will be made up of scrounged parts, aftermarket or otherwise. Or custom made parts. Or aftermarket adaptations. Or stay broken, as most Hummers on the road that I see are. They look like homeless people equivalents. Sad.
The fact is, much of the stuff for the H2 is rare and discontinued.
It is extremely difficult for me to keep my H2 completely stock and restored. At great expense I might ad.

Fair enough. Personally I wouldn't consider air suspension, or seat heaters and stuff like that to be major. I meant major as in mechanical getting you from a-b. If you're trying to keep an all oem creampuff, then no. You're out of luck. But that's to be said about pretty much any car 20 years old.
I will agree that most h2's on the road look like homeless people. Most people have no taste.
The Hummers are very unique vehicles. Unmistakable styling, relatively low production numbers, and extremely capable for what they were designed for. In many ways the Hummers remind me of the 60s-70s muscle cars: Uniquely American, perhaps not super practical for a lot of folks but destined to be collector cars. Nothing like them or the Hummers will ever be made again.
Most “must have” drivetrain parts should be available from GM as time passes. eBay, boneyards and the aftermarket will hopefully provide other parts, but all of us Hummer owners will be or are transitioning from driving a vehicle we remember buying new ( or wanting to buy new!) to driving a collectible vehicle with the associated positives and challenges.
My Hummer is not my daily driver. Although I can afford a “new” vehicle my daily driver is actually 10 years older than my Hummer and is pushing 400,000 miles. Most drivetrain parts for it (1997 Ram 3500 diesel; also my K9 Search and Rescue vehicle) are still available but other parts can be a challenge. I’m still looking for a replacement cup holder! Still, I’d hop in this 27 yr old truck and head cross country with no hesitation.
Bottom line? IMO the Hummer is a uniquely American vehicle that we need to hold on to because if we don’t we’ll be like so many others that look back and say “I used to have one of those. God I wish I still did!”

I don't know if I feel like spending $500 per lamp, on those cab lights just because they're leaking and these idiots down here don't know how to use marine caulk now I'm curious what did you do? i'm entirely too much of a cheap ***. They want to charge me for brand new ones just because they don't have a template to put down 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.
thanks for all the replys, i have a c4 corvette among other cars, it will never be collectable but i love it,
so many parts are not available new anymore such as abs sensors etc, i collected a lot of miscellaneous parts
for the future, kind of the reason i started this post, lots of the drivetrain stuff is generic GM stuff, but considering getting some
of the unique stuff put aside, maybe air ride sensors, door handles, OEM stuff that may get real hard to find.
Its just keeping up on issues as they arrive. With our rigs now getting close to 20 years young- seals dry out, things break. I have yet to find a part I could not source. I will add this is my 4th H2 everyone had not cracked exhaust manifolds - the bolt heads snap off the bolts. Look at the rear of the engine by the firewall- maybe in 2007 they changed hardness.... However as stated- they are solid rigs, if someone ignored maintenance over the years- it costs $$$$ to take care of all at once. Love mine & will be with me to the grave, Original Fusion orange looks fantastic & glossy still, interior is easily 95% still.
