Default I Rebuilt the Tranny H2 is a beast!

Hey Gentlemen, 3/4 clutch pack went a few weeks ago. Over the last 3 weeks have been working on rebuilding the 4L65e. I upgraded a lot of the internals with Sonnax parts. Sonnax drum, Kolone steels, GPZ clutch packs. Put new spicer u joints of the front drive shaft too. Buttery smooth. Vehicle continues to amaze me. Time to get behind the wheel and drive! 10,000 miles to 200K! If anyone rebuilds their Tranny in the future feel free to dm me & I can push you in the right direction.

Yes sir, pretty cool.
I’ll keep in you mind.
Maybe a complete parts list for that.
My H2 got only 76k on it and it is rebuild but not the transmission cause of the mileage.
Either go your route or put in a Duramax next year.

That's Great to here. Mine is an 09 with the 6L80 Six speed. Are some of the parts you used the same as in the 6L80? Thanks for posting. We look forward to some more info.

Thx man, feels great to have it all completed. Yes and no. Im basing my comment off teardown vids. Im pretty sure The parts are much beefier in the 4l80. Same part but much beefier from my research. The rebuild in itself actually wasnt that it was more annoying than anything else. You need special tools. Had to order parts that I didnt have. Fluid. Ordered a spring cage but broke it and had to re order. Buy a press. Best way to explain the rebuild process is to think of it as 10 puzzles. Puzzles are easy to put together but if you make a mistake you have to take all
the pieces apart and start over. Can get very annoyng. Im sure after doing a few more which ill certainly be doing it will be much smootheir. Ill post another reply to the thread of the parts and some future mods ill be doing to it. I installed the corvette servo. Gives it a nice punch but might be a little to much. Im going schedule a meeting with a professional to learn how to perfect the 4l65e for the H2. Scanned forums didnt really see anyone doing their own rebuilds. Spending $5000+ is insane to me. Saw someone paid $6,000 for a tranny on here. Wild. For $3,000 in high quality parts you can build your own tranny and i bet its prob better built than what you would get somewhere else. More to come soon!

Interesting.. Yep I know what you mean about needing special tools. I restore Vintage electronic gear. In fact I'm restoring a vintage FM Alignment Generator. Also have some Vintage Stereo gear I'm working on. The same thing happens when you do this kind of work. You need a Freq Counter A High Quality VTVM (Google that one) easier that way . plus other gear. You might only use it once or twice a year or not at all.

If my 6L80E ever poops the bed... I'd buy a Rebuilt GM unit. My neighbor a few years ago had his 6L80E in his older Caddy Escalade crook. He had one ordered thru GM which GM rebuilt. I think he paid $3200.00 for the tranny Plus the shop price for removal and installation. I'm guessing another $1000.00.

It sounds like you have an area in you home..... the garage where it's large enough to do a tranny rebuild. I don't. I have a One car Home garage with and detached Garage for other stuff. But not enough room or set up area to rebuild one. Kudos to you for taking on the job. To me the most complicated thing every designed in the Automotive world is the Automatic Tranny. You might get a kick out of this as it's been around the web for years.

I just bought a 2006 H2 with the 6.0L V8 about a week and a half ago. My son and I are working on it for what will eventually be his first car. Over the weekend we started experiencing an issue after replacing the brake lines coming off of the master cylinder where it will shift fine up to second gear but once it goes to hit third the engine over revs and basically won’t go any further. i’m trying to figure out if this is a issue with a torque converter or the clutch pack. With the repairs you performed where would you suggest I start? I’m very much a DIY person, but I am not a mechanic, although I am happy and willing to learn.

None of the parts are the same unfortunately. Totally different beast with a totally different operating principle.

probably an issue with the trans itself. Two people on YouTube, Nick’s transmissions and Precision transmission have tons of videos on 4l60e/4l65es
