usually you would use power from your reverse lights so it turns on instantly when in reverse,

The mirror stays on all the time, not related to your back up camera. You can change it to a regular rear view mirror by flipping lower paddle.

Dave - Can you get me some info on how you installed the GM rear camera mirror? Were you able to reuse the existing wiring to get to the rear? where did you place the camera - can it fit the existing mounting position? Thx!
