Not typical easy job. .. don't take my word but I read somewhere it is inside the fuel tank .

Thanks to Gm for making the fuel filter replacement so fun

x2 when I had my truck in for maint. I asked my mechanic to change the fuel filter. He told me that it is in the tank and will last the life of the truck. He also said that it would really take a lot too clog it.

Are you just trying to be proactive as I was? Or is there a reason you want to change it?
EDIT: this false. 03 has a filter mid point by crossmember in front of tank

I don't know what year you have but 2003 is the only year that has the filter on the outside of the tank.

In tank fuel filters are usually strainers not an actual filter. Not sure about the 2's but the strainers just prevent large debris from entering the fuel system.

This is a fairly easy job if a bit fiddly the filter is tucked above the cross member in the middle of the truck. once you locate the filter you need to squeeze the tab together and the pipe should pull out. be prepared for fuel to leek out as you pull the pipe so try and be quick i held the new filter nex to the old one while i swoped them over then tye rap the new one back in place mine is a 03 h2
