Default Hummer 2 Burglary in Cerritos, CA

Hello Everyone,
Just want to let you know and specially the ones near Cerritos, CA. Someone broke into my Hummer 2 yesterday and took the instrument panel. It looks like they punch in the drivers key hole. Just not sure why the alarm did not sound. They also took my honda eu3000is generator and a few other stuff. Just not sure how they got it out of the hummer. My hummer is parked just 15 to 20 steps away from the entrance of our building.
I am now looking into putting a new alarm system.

I was still able to drive the hummer home.

Be safe guys!
Lot

Wow... That really sucks! You should tell your insurance company that you had an LED instrument cluster :-)

That's too bad. I would have liked them to meet my friend Mr. Kimber.

I don't think the factory alarm will go off when they punch the key lock. Both of my H2's were broken into the same way. It's just as easy to jam a screwdriver in and pry up as it is to use a key. I just installed a Viper 5704V 2 way alarm with Smart Start (It'll tell me if someone breaks in up to a mile away) and 3 "Pain Generator" piezo sirens for inside(these things will literally make you sick if you spend a little time around them - I tested them out!). The most effective change IMO that I did was to remove the door lock cylinders. I had to replace the drivers door handle because they broke it when they broke in, so I ordered all black handles for all the way around the truck and was able to get the passenger front door handle without a lock hole. I got a plug for the drivers door. They target these trucks because they are so easy to get into. Your instrument cluster is probably going to end up on Ebay. In fact these guys may end up doing the LED upgrade on it to get more out of it. It cost me less than $20 to to change out both of my H2's instrument clusters and all of the other lights to LED(I'm in the middle of the process right now).

I need more information on the 3 "Pain Generator" piezo sirens. Is this something that is an option with the alarm? I am going to have Car Toys install a system and I like the idea of f**king with the thieves inside my ride :-)

You removed the lock cylinders? So (stupid question here) you only use your key to start the vehicle then? Where did you get the lock covers? WOnder if that would still deter a thief?

You can google "Pain Generator Siren". Any auto alarm company will know what it is and can ad it to the system. The ones I have are DEI 513T. I have one in the B Pillar right next to the drivers left ear. One in the C Pillar on the passenger side and one in the rear pillar on the drivers side. This is probably(OK-definitely) overkill but I was pissed when I ordered the parts. The sirens are very inexpensive at $6-10 each. I wired my whole system myself and put the sirens behind the pillar covers and drilled holes in a circle to look like speakers. I think it would look better just cutting the hole out and put a tweeter(Not the damn social thing!)cover on it.
I did remove the lock cylinders and the rods to the lock mechanism. I haven't experienced a dead battery yet where the remote won't let me in. On my H2, if I have a dead battery, I can hook jumper cables to my winch to get enough power to unlock the doors. On my wife's H2, I'll want to install something to be able to do this.
Removing the lock cylinders IMO would be the greatest theft deterrent as any other break in option will sound even the factory alarm. When they punch the key cylinder to break in, it's just like using the key...so no alarm. To plug the cylinder hole, I went to Lowes and found a black plastic plug in the hardware section that matched the texture of the door handle and glued it in from the back before I installed the handle.
I've heard the whole thing about if somebody wants to get in bad enough that they will find a way and that is true but the GM door lock design is an invitation.

Hi Guys! nice suggestions on the type of alarm and other stuff mentioned. Do any of you know a website where they sell the instrument cluster for a 2006 H2? The Ins adjuster is here today and he can't find one at the moment.
