Default How Long Have Your Tires Lasted Before You Noticed Dry Rot?

So my TPMS went off on my right left front tire. Down to 38 Lbs from 42 Lbs Cold. Any way searched and sprayed soapy water and checked the tire vale and the tread. No leaks???? Pumped it up tp 50 Lbs amd hauled azz over to my local shop. He did the same thing and could not find a leak. So...he pulled the tire off and spun it around and spayed the back side wall. BAM!!! Air gushing out of the sidewall. Looks like something came up and cut the side wall like you flay a fish. There was a Flap of rubber you could pick up and see the AIR coming out.

Any way we throw the spare on the front and put the leaker on the azz end of the 2.

Then he starts looking at my tires and says....... Your Tires are dry rotting! I can see very small teeny cracks between the tread and sidewall. These tires were put on in 2017 and replaced the stock LT305/60/R20D tires at 50 K that came with the 2. That size call out is not used any more. I replaced them with the Yokohama
35X12.50/R20LT. A mud/snow tire that rides quite. Back in 2017 they cost me $290.99 each. They are about 1/4 in in circumference larger the the stock tire. So now I think I should replace the tires????

What do you think? They still have plenty of meat on them. Look at the Pic's. They went on at 48,750 Miles there is now 79,159. So since 12/5/17 I have driven 30,490 miles.

What's your thoughts? I have the receipt from the supplier. There should be a tread or some kind of warranty. What tire would you recommend?

Thoughts??

Have you checked them closely for small cracks in the sidewall near the top tread. UV is what kills them. I been doing alot of reading and found that these tire shine spray ons that have petroleum in them can cause dry rot problems.

It depends, to a degree, on how the vehicle is parked/stored. I have 20 year old tires on my Daimler Ferret that just recently started showed some small sidewall cracks. The vehicle is always stored indoors. Parking in the sun will greatly accelerate a tires deterioration.

Anything older than 10 years should be replaced unless you just drive around town. Highway heat, old tires are a recipe for disaster. Had 20 year old tires on my old Corvette, it was hard to throw them away but I did, one tread separation and tearing off a fender would not be cheap. My H2 gets driven a few times a year. It has two year old BFG's on it. It hurt to buy 5 new tires when the old ones had 75% tread. I will gamble with some things but not tires.

Yeh, Well Put. Some stuff I have been researching said that the next trip you take on dry rotted tires should be to the shop for a New Set. Mine look great as seen in the pic's as far as tread in the top of the post. Below is the tire that went down. This shot is on the inside side wall. don't remember hitting anything that would cause this. Does not look like tire rot. Bu I just bought a new set of 5 GoodYear Wrangler Duratrac RT 35/12.50R20's .
UV is the big killer/ Next to not using your ride for a long time and just sitting. They say It is good for the tire to roll as it keeps the guts of the tire uniform. Also they recommend garage kept or tire covers.

During my research I found that washing your tires with Dish Soap which removes all the gack you might have put on the tire and then use This which I just bought.

Amazon Amazon

You can decide for yourself. But the rot was probably caused by the UV as my ride is aout in the sun. If you use any kind of tire shine it should be water based not petroleum based. Do some Google searching and you'll find all kinds of articles on tire rot.

Yeah They do look good. Do you park in your garage? Or leave it in the driveway? 2014 till now 2025....11 Years. That's is very good. What brand tires are they? Also In talking with The Tire Supplier, I found that there are Tiers ...Tier 1 2 3 4. One being the best for ware and UV protection. So if you research tires, ask what tier # the tire is. The lower the number the better as Tier 1 is the Best....And the most expensive.

Yep That's the Red Flag.... Cracks in the sidewall or tread. At high speed cracks in the wrong spot can cause a Major failure.
