Hummer H2For those who like a little more gleam to their Hummer, the H2 offers a similar rugged look as the H1, but as a lower cost, and with more added features, making it almost a massive luxury SUV.
Checking to see if anyone has "painted" their front skid plate. I have seen a couple pics of the "H2" in polished aluminum with a Black (gloss?) Background. Really liked it. Want to replicate similar.
What polish do you use?
What paint?
Do you clear coat?
Thanks.

I was actually thinking of doing mine in bedliner this spring or summer. I figure that skid plate takes a pretty good beating just from the environment on the highway.... And in deep snow... And off-road, with brush and whatnot. I thought about a nice paint job for it like what you describe, just not sure how long it would stay good looking. Lol, it is a skid plate after all 😁
....LOL.... Sorry in advance, but I was thinking about this and I can't help about posting it 😂
It's a hummer. It's a bit of a beast. Pretty much goes anywhere in all conditions. It has a certain...ummm....'image.'
So making that front skid plate all pretty.... Isn't that a bit like expecting Arnold Schwarzenegger to wear nail polish?
😆Sorry .... It just crossed my mind and I thought I should throw it out there. But I suspect there's a reason H2 owners don't get those eyelashes to put on over the headlights like the VW beetle crowd....
Keep in mind that's all in jest😁 Nothing wrong with personalizing your ride. It's probably just me.... But I think in H2 with some hardcore Rock scrapes on that skid plate might even add to the overall look?
Painted mine couple years ago. Used body color with black H2. Light clear coat. No issues so far but have done zero off road since. It really doesn't encounter a lot of road debris with pavement use. If you are going off road expect it to see scrapes/brush just like the body paint can.
I have seen these done in red letters, on various colored bodies. So look good, some clash.
Polish for uncoated aluminum wheels will bring up the shine, but needs to be prepped for paint and clear-coated afterwards. Most automotive paint sticks to aluminum.
From: Florida (pregrave yard) going back to My house in NH
I painted mine easily...

YES, I was in El Paso TX, saw about 6 illegal aliens & painted My entire front end, it's mostly red!

Appreciate the replies.
My first hummer ('06 H3) was Offroaded a good bit. Skid plates, rocker rails, Fox shocks, etc etc. Both summer and winter. Even sand dunes.
This truck is more specific use - namely snow and summer cruisin.
Thus the "interest" in contrasting the front skid plate.
