Hummer H2 For those who like a little more gleam to their Hummer, the H2 offers a similar rugged look as the H1, but as a lower cost, and with more added features, making it almost a massive luxury SUV.

Default H2 conversion to Electric?

I read that GM has a connect and cruise EV crate motor package that will be available to convert existing vehicles to full electric.

Are there any shops doing electric conversions already? I am thinking of the Duramax Diesel conversion but I am really interested in the acceleration and torque that electric can produce. Just seeing the new GMC Hummer EV tearing down a drag strip is amazing.

I don’t need a 3 second 0-60 but if I could get my H2 down to 5-6 seconds and still tow a trailer??? That would be awesome!!!

anyone have any leads to any shops doing this type of EV conversion yet?

GM is supposed to come out with a Crate E motor pulg and play but from what I've read, its will be the motor from the Chevy Bolt, all 200 hp worth. They are working on a COPO type power plant with 800 hp but I can't find out anything on a production time line. Ford has their kits out and several other manufacturer's have conversion kits. You might want to hold off on the Duramax conversion, especially now that diesel fuel is so expensive.

Another option - Tesla motor. Literally made to replace a small block GM V8.

Hey OP, nice dream but fogetaboutit!

So $12K for that motor. Then the RE/RE labor cost. Few $Thousand.

Wait.....then you have to find room for the batteries, so you have to gut out part of the vehicle at big labour cost.

But wait.....then you have to budget a few thousand $$$ for batteries, tie-downs for the batteries, running wires to the motors.
Changing out your cluster, adding appropriate gauges, etc. Ka Ching! more $.

There is a local Vancouver, BC company that yesterday announced they can now convert your ICE car to electric for anywhere from $50K -$100K CAD, depending on complexity. Budget $100K CAD for the H2. And they have not even done one car yet, other than a demo.

Bottom line: This is a rich-man's game. Are you rich?

By the time you are actually done, about the same price as buying the new EV Hummer. And you are left with a 15-20 year old rusty EV conversion. But very cool money pit.

I think this would be neat to see done. If you're towing trailers though I would go for the duramax. Especially since ev conversions don't usually have a long range in the first place, the h2 is not aerodynamic, and towing dramatically reduces range.

One thing about EV's often overlooked is fire safety.

EV fires can be almost impossible to put out, with spontaneous explosions, toxic gasses etc they are very dangerous indeed. I've heard the only way to stop an EV fire is to submerge it water, like drop it in river or a special tank.

You may remember the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 catching fire and being banned from aircraft, well image something much, much bigger. So for car parks or container ships etc, the risk is huge, there is a good reason why lithium batteries are limited to 30% charge for shipping.

As for charging, there is a little thing called "Range Anxiety" I recently accompanied a friend in a brand new "Top of the Range" VW Skoda and personally suffered 2hrs or range anxiety. That's how long it took to locate a charging station powerful enough, then wait for it to become free, then put in 50 miles worth of charge to get us home.

As for the quoted range of 330 miles, they recommend only charging to 80% to extend battery life, so that cuts it down to 264 miles. My friend turned all the heating off, lights off, used regenerative braking and drove at whatever the optimum speed was quoted as and still fell short of 200 miles!

I hear Tesla's are better, or more true to spec but I hear the build quality is poor, however the acceleration is great!

Having said that I'd love a Tesla

If the US is anything like the UK, we've got different charging connectors, different charging rates, different suppliers, different payment schemes and cards etc, the bottom line it's a total mess. The cost for the more powerful stations matches gas.

I've even heard that in some UK rural areas, the power company had to get EV owners to agree on when to charge, apparently if they're all charging at the same time they can create blackouts. Also on standard power outlets they can take up to 3 days to charge!

My H2 runs on LPG giving up to 30mpg, depending on price, however it takes about 10 minutes to fill which drives me crazy, imagine it being electric!

Some say hydrogen would be better.....

Another friend is about to take delivery of an E Porche, not sure what model, but I'll let you know what it's like.

There's a certain appeal to EV's which I share and I would absolutely love a Hummer-EV SUV

The Mercedies AA looks good too

I am. I want to convert an expected Hummer H2 purchase, and joined to hear some reviews of milage increases and overall performance. The normal milage of them always reduced my purchase consideration.
