Default Front hitch is vertical

I have many things I'd like to put in the front hitch, however the pin is vertical and turning them on their side is not very suitable. For one is my cargo carrier I strap my gas cans to when I go to fill them up. A winch mount. These things on their side would not work very well. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Drill a vertical hole, that's what most people do. There is no other work around.

Actually there is supposed to be an extension bar (with the second set of holes rotated) for the front hitch that came with your H2 when it was new.... There should also be a longish front hitch pin. They are part of the "Trailering Convenience Package" that comes with H2's when they are new.

Nearly every single used Hummer I have seen is missing it....

This shows the whole kit along with the part numbers... You can see the specific vertical mounting pin too. I have the pin for mine but no bar...

That being said, you can get aftermarket extension tubes on eBay for about $20 but you just have to drill the second set of holes yourself on the cheaper ones. The factory ones are out there but stupidly expensive. This is what I'm going to be doing. OEMcats.com shows the cheapest price for just the stupid bar is $73.15.

Just have to drill the second set of holes yourself.

Better to use the extension anyways since it keeps things just a little further away from your front end.

If you use an extension the winch will be way too far out .
I drilled a hole and installed as close as possible , dont want to hit someone while in stop and go traffic. Wasnt hard to drill .

I thought about an extension but then realized I might lose some needed strength on the hitch. What's the weight capacity on the front receiver? There's a mobile home I have to back down a long winding driveway that I was thinking would be way easier if it were on the front.

Hard telling for certain. The manual is vague on the front receiver capabilities other than to say to never use it for towing a trailer. It also says the extention tube is only for use with light weight stuff like bike racks. Then it goes on to state

"Notice: Do not use the winch platform to winch at a tension of more than 9,000 lbs. (4082 kg). This would damage your vehicles frame."

Take that as how you want. I'd not hesitate to use the front one on mine to launch a boat or something where I know the tongue weight is not that much but with a mobile home? Not so sure on that but if its fairly well balanced on it axles then it might not be too bad.

Sorry, it's a travel trailer, not mobile home. It's about 5000lbs. I wasn't sure if the front hitch was for stuff like bikes and boats exclusively, or if it could stand up to something heavier. 9000lbs seems like it's more than sufficient, that's heavier than class 3.

Hows about NOT DIGGING UP OLD Threads? How about avoiding that from here out. You tacked on the end of a thread from 2017, that is nearly SEVEN YEARS AGO!
