Hummer H2 For those who like a little more gleam to their Hummer, the H2 offers a similar rugged look as the H1, but as a lower cost, and with more added features, making it almost a massive luxury SUV.

Default Electrical gremlins

I don't know what my h2 has been through in a previous life, but these electrical issues are seemingly unending.

I had throttle position sensor 2 codes for almost a year before finally fixing (i hope) it. Chased wires endlessly, split the whole bundle and traced them and found nothing. Eventually ended up running 2 new grounds right off the throttle harness for the black and orange wires. A week has passed and no issues yet.

Now my 4wd is constantly in N, not 4hi. I can't change it either. It tries, flashes a bit, then goes back to N.

My reciculation button on the vents, i press it, and it flashes, hten goes back to off.

I unlock the truck and hte reverse sensor alarms go off if something is behind me, when i unlock it thinks i'm in reverse. But i get in and start and it starts fine, so it's definitely not in reverse or it wouldn't start.

I'm about to pull every wire from the truck and run all new ones, i just can't imagine having so many random electrical issues.

FatJay, Welcome to the wonderful world of H2....
The electrical gremlins in these things are only beaten by older British cars....

It sounds like you have some electrical or wiring experience, so hopefully those repairs will do the trick.

With the 4wd, have you searched for a short, switch or any other kind of coded issue
I am wondering if maybe it is a bad switch.
I assume with it being in neutral, you arent able to engage the truck to drive?

I am also wondering if you have had all these issues prior to the TPS fix?
it is possible you might have grounded the TPS but grounded out something else in the meant time.
Of course, if they pre-existed the TPS then ignore the previous statement.

Does the truck have any additional electronics wired into the system?
I have heard that some of these things could be affected by a low voltage trip. Meaning that if the system is suppose to see 12.1 volts and it only sees 12 volts, it will immediately trip things. I had this issue on my Vette after I installed my supercharger. It was a real pain in the *** to find it.... but luckily I found out about the LVT
Usually a crimp connector will bleed off just enough energy for the LVT to happen.

Personally I try to remove all I can that I dont need, but these vehicles are getting more and more integrated. I have seen a TPS shut down the car. Which is ridiculous

Funny you should mention TPS shutting down the car, that's exactly what happened the first time it happened. As i was approaching a bend, which cost me power steering and brakes. I saved it by the skin of my teeth. Had my wife bring a code reader, cleared code, and it fired right up. 2nd time it happened i just started a left turn and almost ran into a dump truck. I got in the habit of keeping my code reader plugged in. I got to the point I could read hte code and clear it without looking in a second, then restart the engine without stopping.

The 4wd issue was before the TPS fix, I was just focusing on the TPS first. There is no additional wires, everything is bone stock. The truck runs/drives, it just indicates neutral. on the 4wd system. I just bought a new battery, old one was not great. Alternator is strong, but this issue was long before the battery went bad. I just let it sit for a few months and the battery was low and didn't take the charge.

I know all about elecrical gremlens, I own a jaguar. But I am an electrical engineer.

4WD - IF your ABS and brake warning lights are OFF , then you seem to have a problem with your transfer case actuator motor. It is sending back the wrong TC position most likely due to the internal position disc clip(s) being broken or just plain dirty... Not a big deal as it can be opened up and fixed. There is a good youtube video in spanish that hopefully shows what your problem is:

REVERSE SENSORS - They are most likely powered by your reverse lights that come on as rear courtesy/driveway lights when you unlock your truck. I believe there is an option to disable this feature. My sensors do the exact same thing when I unlock it and then turn off as soon as I start the engine.

Good luck!

I am a new H2 owner and it can truly be an absolute nightmare!!! BUT, it has become my daily ride!! Sometimes, my wife asks me to borrow it offering me to drive her overpriced German SUV... and my answer is always NO
