no longer sells new "Lifetime" subscriptions directly. Originally offered between 2002 and 2011 for roughly $399–$599, these plans provided satellite radio for a one-time fee.
Today, you can only obtain a lifetime subscription by:
- Buying Used Gear: Purchasing a pre-owned receiver on sites like eBay that already has an active lifetime plan attached.
- Managing an Existing Plan: If you already own one, it is now more flexible due to a major legal settlement (Alvarez v. Sirius XM).
Following the 2021 class-action settlement, the rules for these plans improved significantly:
- Unlimited Transfers: You can move your lifetime service to a new radio or vehicle an unlimited number of times.
- Lower Transfer Fee: The cost to transfer service to a new device was reduced from $75 to $35 per transfer.
- App Streaming Included: Most lifetime plans now include access to the SiriusXM app for streaming on phones and smart home devices.
If you are looking to buy a "lifetime unit" from a third party, be aware of several common pitfalls:
- Ghost Subscriptions: Some radios appear active because they haven't received a "kill signal" from the satellite yet. Once they do, the service will stop.
- Transfer Ownership: Without the original account credentials (username/password), you cannot transfer the service to a different radio if the device breaks.
- Account Recalls: The original owner can sometimes transfer the "lifetime" status to their new car, which immediately deactivates the old unit you just bought.
Since lifetime plans are discontinued, most users now look for long-term promotional rates on the SiriusXM Deals page to keep costs low:
- Introductory Offers: Often available for $1 for 3 months or $4–$5 per month for the first year.
- Retention Discounts: Many users report getting significantly lower rates by calling to cancel at the end of their current billing cycle.
Thanks for the suggestion ..I'll google around and see what I can find unless you have a spacific link.
I also use XM, have a plan for all three cars $28.99 a month total. If you call XM & whine - they will cut price. Too much competition against them now- some money for a XM subscription is better than none I imagine is how they view it now. Most people can stream for free...
