Difficulty slow speed steering
In tight parking lot maneuvering my H2 seems like it doesn't have power steering. Granted, I have wide tires, but I would hope that there is something that can improve the situation. Anyone else have experience with this? Tires are 38x15.5 btw.
The H2 uses a heavy duty Power pump because it not only powers the steering gear but also the hydroboost braking system. If this pump was replaced with a low pressure/ low volume pump this could be your problem. If this is the case the following is a band-aid.
Here is a little trick you can use to increase your existing Power Steering pump pressure which might help with your problem:
Remove the high pressure line from the rear of your power steering pump and remove the flow control value. You'll see some shims under the flow control valve. Removing shims from under the tip, reinstall the valve without the shims will increase the bypass pressure.
Another thing that may help is to complete a hydroboost/power steer gear flush and fluid replace. I have done this on all 3 of my H2's and had a noticable improvement in performance after the flush and GM fluid replacement. I would try this first.
